Hi everyone,

I am currently a senior and I'm worried that I won't be able to go to my dream school which is UCSD. Last year my Junior yr., I took the SAT and the Act but I did poorly on both of it.

SAT 1: 1200
2ND retake of SAT:1100 (my tutor in princetonreview told me to just focus on the easy and medim part in the math section and just don't do the hard ones but instead of getting a higher score, I got a lower score instead)

ACT: 16

I am going to retake the SAT the third time this october. However, I need suggestions on what I should do to guaranteed myself on getting at least 1800. This is my last chance and I really want to get a better score.

Thanks for your time and I really hope someone can give me suggestions that will guarentee myself to go to UCSD.

UCSD- My friend went there. Great school for engineering I believe =]. Anyways, I'm a sophomore, and I work everyday on my SAT skills. I can get a 700+ on both math and writing, but like a 650 on crit read. How? I've been very mature with the way I talk, and learn and use new words quite often. It is the getting into the right atmosphere that counts. For you, since you don't have much time left, I'd suggest that you get familiar with the grammar and stuff for the writing section. Math- cover at least a chapter from a SAT math workbook everyday. SAT is an test that studies your ability to respond to answers in effect to the amount of education you received THROUGHOUT school. I found this out pretty late, but I still had some time to improve my self and I did. Don't waste your time on Critical Reading (cause you're screwed. no offense), and go hard on studying the writing and math section, which can be improved in a short period of time. Sorry dude, but you should've started earlier. Can't help you much now that you got so little time on your hands. O and, take several practice tests!!!!!!!!!!!! GL

Honestly man, UCSD seems like a REALLY far reach for you. Are your other stats good? What about Extra curriculars and volunteer hours?

The only thing I can really suggest to you now is what CollegeAddiction said. Work on math and writing because those are the easiest to bring up. Math: memorize formulas and do PLENTY of practices. Writing: Memorize rules of grammar. Read some books on how to write an SAT essay. Reading: I'm not sure what can be done here.

You really need to pull up those scores for a school like UCSD. Are you in-state? If not, I think your chances just dropped by like...half.

"Admitted students attained a mean weighted high school GPA of 4.06 and average SAT scores of 635, 670, and 640 for Critical Reading, Math and Writing, respectively. Of the 18,547 freshmen that were admitted, 99% were in the top ten percent of their high school class."

Mean SAT; 1940. You really need to work on this; and most California schools tend to only accept top 10% of a class, that might/probably is a problem for you.

Focus on the grammar section; its the easiest section to bring up the scores in. Math is also easy to improve in, but just doesn't work for some students.
