Senior Year & 1st Semester Grades

How are first semester senior year grades factored into the admissions process?

Also, what’s a mid-year report? Is it just to make sure you’re not flunking your classes? (Is it not looked at as heavily as junior year?)

Auto-accepts and auto-denys are not affected by their senior mid-year reports. Everyone else may or may or not be.

First, it depends on the college. The mid-year reports arrive in the mail during a very busy period for adcoms. Somebody has to go thru the mail and link up each mid-year report with each application folder. Some colleges (WUSTL for example) makes sure that this is done and the application doesn't progress until the mid-year report is in the folder.

Second, it depends on the applicant. If an applicant is borderline for any reason, the adcom will use the mid-year report to make the final decision. A good example would be if the applicant had an improving trend on their gpa, the adcom might want to see if the trend continued into senior year. For borderline cases, somebody will go into the mailroom and specifically look for the mid-year report, and if they can't find it, they will call the school's GC.

Don't let down during senior year. In addition to the mid-year report, every acceptance letter says that the college reserves the right to revoke the acceptance based on your final transcript.

Okay thank you! :D

so are u saying senior grades could change a college;s view on u say if u didnt do so great like a 2.9 gpa junio year, but had a 3.8+ senior year.

If you had a 2.9 junior year and were borderline, then a 3.8 in the first half of senior year would move them quite a bit in the direction of accepting you.
