Senior Year: AP Chemistry or AP Physics for Biology Major

Today my high school started senior year course registration. I am very torn on what science class I should take. I want to take either AP Chemistry or AP Physics. I only have room for one of the classes, even though I would like to take both. Which one would colleges prefer I take if I am going to apply as a biology major next year? If it is really necessary, I could take out AP Psychology in order to take both. Another option I am looking into is taking one of the two over the summer at a Community College. What are your thoughts? Thank you!

AP Chemistry is essential to a biology major. I recommend that you take AP Chemistry.

Also, if this matters at all, I took Pre-AP Chemistry Honors sophomore year and Physics First Honors freshman year. My teacher told me that some schools require Physics and do not count Physics First as their required physics, so that scared me a little. Maybe I will try to find a way to fit both courses.

I don’t think they wouldn’t count your Physics as long as it was a full year course. Just because it’s not AP shouldn’t discredit it. Since you took Pre-AP Chem, I would do AP Chem. However, have you already done a biology? Most colleges want to see all 3.

Yes, I am taking AP Biology this year. Going off what you guys are saying, I think I am now leaning towards AP Chemistry next year and then taking a Physics course (one more calculus based than my freshmen year one) over the summer?

perhaps you should go see what your GC has to say? The GC is probably more familiar with the schools you are considering and how they count Physics First than your teacher.

Take the Physics. It would be better to do the Psych in college.

AP Chem… as you’ll be taking organic chemistry soon

Both and ditch the psych. No brainer.
