Hi! So I’m in the process of selecting my classes for Senior year and I’m having trouble deciding between classes. My Junior Year classes as of now are:
British Literature Honors
Pre-calculus Honors
US History II & Government Honors
Anatomy & Physiology Advanced Honors
AP Spanish Language & Culture
AP US Government & Politics
For Senior year, the classes I know for sure:
Senior English Honors
Calculus Honors (I can take AP Calc but not sure if I want to)
Exploring Spanish Culture through film Honors (I can take AP Spanish Literature but again, don’t know if I want to)
AP Biology
Physics Advanced Honors
The ones I am thinking about:
AP Economics
AP Human Geography
Hi! Welcome to CC! Looking from your schedule for junior year, I am assuming that you can pick up to six courses, please let me know if I am wrong. About the classes you have to pick between, do you know what you would like to major in? Knowing that can provide some feedback.
About AP Calc, my school does not have Calc Honors, but from what I’m hearing and seeing from upperclassmen (and sophomores in my grade level, people who have a C or higher in Pre Calc Honors, almost always signs up for AP Calc AB/BC. I would ask your guidence counselor, current teacher, Calc Honors and AP Calc teachers for more clarification. Based on your grade in Pre Calc Honors, they can probably provide some feedback. If you’re not planning on majoring in the humanities, I think Honors Calc is more than enough, but if you’re planning on going into STEM, I recommend that you consider AP Calc AB, at least.
Now, about AP Econ and Human Geography, I think it’s best you take what is more interesting to you. If you can’t decide what is more interesting, I recommend talking to each of the teachers and let them provide a syllabus to you and info on the class, or asking upperclassmen, and visiting the course descriptions on College Board’s website. If you still have trouble, feel free to flip a coin, shuffle out of a hat, or do something like that. If you would not like to leave it up to the chance, sign up for the one that will help you towards either getting college credit or help you in terms of career goals. If your AP Econ class includes both AP Micro and Macro, they have two different AP exams, so getting a 4 and/or 5 on both exams have a good chance of giving you lots of credits in some schools that give college credit. From my understanding, a lot of universities do not give credit for AP Human Geography. Also, check if AP Econ is a requirement to graduate. Seeing that you’re thinking about taking it in senior year, I’m guessing that it’s an elective, but at my school, either regular Econ or AP Econ is required to graduate, I’m not sure if that’s the case for you.
Hi thanks for the advice! For college, I am planning to major in Biology (General) or Neuroscience. Depending on how I like AP Econ, I might major in Economics or Poli Sci (bc I really enjoy AP Gov).
