How many classes should a high school senior be taking (or rather, a high school senior who wants to go to Rice)?

I'm signed up for 6:
AP Lit
AP Calc
Poetry
Judaics
Global Conflict
Modern Physics/Genetics

My counselor advised me not to take a seventh class, because I won't have time, but I'm worried that Rice will think I'm not trying hard enough. I could take statistics (not AP, my school doesnt offer it) or a second history (philosophy, economics) or maybe even Hebrew (it would be my fourth year taking it).

So my question: Is six classes typical for a strong Rice applicant or should I be taking a seventh?

i took three ap classes my senior year and yes, my high school offered way more. from my point of view it's probably better to do well in those classes(oh yeah, and be interested in them) then to overload yourself with work that a. you can't get done b. you're not going to do to the best of your ability even if you do get a lot of done. c. classes and grades aren't everything. do something that you really think is significant and special, if that's taking a lot of classes, then do that, but i'm guessing you have greater ambitions.

Let's see, senior year I took:
3 aps
dual enrollment for Calculus BC/multivariable
Latin

(and band and the school paper both appeared on my schedule)

I'd say take 6 and make sure you do well in them and enjoy them and take some time for extra curriculars.

I had 5 AP's senior year and an honors class. I'm sure I'm an exception though. You are fine.

I took 6 classes senior year (4 AP). You should be fine.
