Hi, this is my first time posting! I’m currently a junior taking these classes:
Spanish for Spanish speakers 3/4
AP biology
Intergrated Math 3
American History
AP English Language
I’m currently signing up for my senior classes and so far I have:
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
AP Psychology
Consumers Education
Anatomy & Physiology
Physics
Do you think these classes are beneficial for my future major in college? Are these classes hard?
You need pre-calculus honors and/or calculus and AP chemistry. Cut out anatomy/physiology and consumers education, replace AP literature with English honors, in order to accommodate the two advanced classes.
Consumers Educaion is required and it’s only a semester.
My school only offers 2 years of English Honors (Freshmen and Sophomore year), from there I moved to AP
Yikes.
Considering premeds will need to survive 5 chemistry- based classes (vs. 2 biology) you must take AP chemistry.
Ideally then you’d have
AP Lit
Pre-calculus honors or calculus
AP chemistry
Study hall/consumer education
Physics
AP psychology OR another social science
Disagree. While it might be good, it is not a “must.” Few med schools will accept AP science credits as fulfilling their prereqs for admission, so if said med schools require 5 chem classes, the applicant still has to take the 5 chem classes, either by repeating gen chem or by taking a more advanced chem. So flip a coin on AP Bio vs. AP Chem. Personally, I would do chem over bio, so in that, I agree with @MYOS1634; I just have an issue with the term “must.”
That said, if you don’t have pre-calc, I would opt for that over AP Stats.
Is calc AB a must for students wishing to do med/premed?
I thought OP already had AP Bio this year, which is why I considered AP Chem as more important than Anatomy&Physiology in the plan.
Precalculus (honors) is absolutely necessary.
Calc AB helps for premeds since they’ll take calculus. Many students taking Calc 1 in college have already taken Calculus in high school and still find the college course challenging.
You can ask for a retired final exam for the class you’d like to skip, and see if you can get a 90%, in which case you should skip; many premeds don’t ask for their math/science credits since the college course will be more in-depth and they don’t master the content at the level required for them to get an A.
Sorry, I missed that. Yes, AP Chem would be better than A&P.
The thing is that A&P is only a semester and so is consumers ed (also a semester)
You’re better off taking AP Chemistry for the whole year, and study hall in the Fall (for college apps) and Consumer ed in the Spring.
My school doesn’t offer study halls. Also, we can only choose 5 classes. (6 classes in total due to lunch)
Then, AP chem and lunch/consumer education… After all, during lunch, you can work on college applications etc.
AP Lit
Pre-calculus honors or calculus
AP chemistry
Lunch/consumer education
Physics
AP psychology OR another social science
