I have a big problem: I am in a class that is so totally disruptive and they are all frankly, the bottom of the barrel students who are only in there because there are no other classes for them that hour. It's a science class, and I need its fourth credit; but, it's science and we have lots of group work. It's impossible to get anything done when everyone is either sleeping, bursting out with rap songs, or dancing around, or racially insulting each other, or fighting, or trying to pick up girls--icck! I want out of it, but there are no other science classes available to me. They canceled physics, so I am taking that second semester as a Directed Study with a teacher. It doens't count as a core subject class, but there are no other core science classes in my school. I don't even like the class I picked, I only took it to get the science credit. Now that I know how crazy it is going to be, I want out. We are at the half point of the cardmarking and I don't know how I will be able to fix this. If I switch from Pre-Calc to Calc, is it too much more difficult? I could possibly do that, and switch stuff up. It depends. Any advice is helpful, thanks.

You should talk to your teacher (first) and counselor about it and see what they think about it. Also, Calc is very different from Pre-Calc (especially to switch during the school year) so I don't know how well you would fare.

My calc class, out of the 14 or so students, 5-6 did not take trig - it is very possible to succeed. And yeah, it is quite different from precalc. Mmm, compare your school's precalc and calc syllabi and talk to your teachers about filling in the gaps.

I'm a Senior and glad to be taking it easy in Precalc instead of Calc. I'm also not taking a Science class at all this year because in New York State, you only need three Science credits for an Advanced Regents Diploma (all of which I have). Life is pretty good!

I'm applying to Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, UNC-Chapel Hill, URochester, and UMich, even though I come from the school that I come from--a hell hole in a dinky suburb of Detroit. You all saw The Goonies--Dada said Detroit was the murder capital. I don't know if that's true, but except for the Pistons, Red Wings, and UMich, living in Michigan sucks.

Detroit definitely isnt the murder capital... umm you basically need pre-cal to take cal i really wouldnt recommend the switch
