Senior Year & Club Positions

Hi,

I am a junior. My friend and I just recently had our club accepted at our school. He wants to have president of our new club this year and I will have president next year. I would much rather us both be presidents (co-presidents) but he insists that it devalues the leadership position on college applications. So I have two main questions:

  1. We are both cofounders of the club but is it better we act as Co-Presidents or switch VP and President positions senior year like he insists?
  2. If I were to agree that he serves as president this year and I serve as president next year, will I be able to put myself as president on a college application even though I will have only been president for a few months when I submit my applications?

Thanks!

Bump. I’d appreciate a reply.

Wouldn’t it be best if your club elected a president instead of you two deciding among yourselves?

If you are choosing yourselves, be Co-Presidents. Being the President of a club is not the make-or-break factor of your college admissions. Doesn’t being demoted to VP look weirder than be Co-President? If you choose option two, then yes you can put you were the President of the club on your applications.

You could always put Co-Founder of the club even if you are not president.
