She took honors chem and bio and is taking ap enviro now. She isn’t in love with science so was hoping to get away with Marine. We could maybe sub out AP Bio or AICE Physics. She isn’t taking a 3rd year of foreign language. That decision was made with after corresponding with UF admissions directly, so I’m good with that. She will graduate with 10AP and 5 AICE. She needs AICE T&T for her academy.
Both of my kids passed on the 3rd year, I don’t think it matters at UF (it does at some other very selective schools).
The schedule does look a “little” light. Maybe upgrade Marine, or add an AICE class that has a reputation for rigor (maybe accounting?).
Also consider which classes may earn her college credit.
For example AICE Accounting could earn her 3 credit for ACG L000, which is not useful at all.
On the other hand, a 3 in AP Bio would earn her 4 credits of Biology (BSC 2005 and the lab, BSC 2005L). That’s useful if she’s not a STEM major and a 3 isn’t that tough.
AICE Art and Design (AS level) could award 3 credits for ART 2305C. However, this class doesn’t met any of the General Education requirements, so it’s only useful if you’re an Art major.
Both of my kids took AICE physics. It’s also viewed as one of the “rigorous” AICE classes.
The AS level test can get you 4 credits for PHY 2020 and PHY L0001, 3 of those credits count as State Core P. That’s one less class she has to take (and pay for).
The A level offers a ridiculous 10 credits: PHY 2053, PHY 2053L and PHY 2054, PHY 2054L. All count as State core P.
Both of my kids are/were engineering majors, so they still needed to take , PHY 2048 and PHY 2049.
ART 2305C is a required critical tracking course for a graphic design major, so taking Art & Design would be a great idea.
One thing I would recommend, if you’ve earn credits to several of your state core classes, is not to take the full recommend 15 credits of classes in the first semester, just take a lighter load (12). It will make for a much less stressful semester. In fact, do that for at least the first two semester.
With her free time, she should use it to check out some of the student clubs/organizations. It will help her find her “tribe”.
When evaluating the rigor of the senior year schedule, we specifically look for AP, IB, AICE classes and do not have a preference for one over another. She should choose the classes that she will enjoy the most and excel in.
If your school offers AP Calc BC, I would highly recommend it over AB. It brings more rigor to your application and the difficulty isn’t all that much more, especially for a strong math student. I would check with your GC to ensure she is taking the courses that will allow the GC to check that magic box on the application indicating your student pursued the most rigorous course load available at your school.
