My son is interested in applying to Lehigh this Fall for Engineering. He would like to take AP Psych, AP Statistics, AP Calc B/C, but no Science. Can anyone advise if it's a good idea to not take an advanced Science course in Senior year? My husband feels the important thing is that he is taking AP Calc B/C.

what has been his science sequence so far?

AP Physics would be really good to have in his application

Chemistry and physics would be good. No matter which engineering discipline he is pursuing, he will have to take both of these within the first two years. Calc is of course also good since he will probably have to take at least three semesters for engineering. You have to be able to get past the hard science and math before you get to the engineering.

No science AP, or no science at all?

what happened to the OP? you would have thought she/he would have returned to their own thread???

The ONLY AP courses/tests I took were Calc AB and BC. I waived transfer of the BC credit though even though I got a decent score and I’m glad I re-took the course. Definitely a lot that more can be taught in a college course that may have been skipped in a highschool course. Just a word of caution.
Some of the AP courses may be a waste of time. Check out the first year curriculum to see if the credits will even be worth the stress. Also check to see if they accept those specific credits.
As for the courses just looking good on the HS transcript, I’m sure they will, but don’t overload. I had a pretty light senior year schedule and that didn’t to cause me to be rejected.

I did not take a science class (AP or otherwise) my senior year, and was admitted for fall 2006. However, I wasn’t interested in a science-y major, either. But, once I got here I wished I had so I could have waived out of some of the 8 credits (2 classes) in the A&S Natural Science distribution requirement. So probably not necessary, but not a bad idea…

Science is king!
