Senior Year Courseload

I’m not a senior but just wondering how rigorous your course load for senior year should be for top schools. Here is what I am planning on.

School is on semester schedule and I want to exempt my 4th block. So 6 classes instead of 8.

AP Stats(year long)
AP Human Geography
AP English
Honors Accounting
Personal Finance/ other regular class

Does this schedule raise flags at admissions for top schools such as,Duke, Georgetown, top public schools

I am planning on majoring in Finance/Econ so do my non-AP classes benefit me or is it better to have AP classes not related to by major?

Having not math (unless you already took Calc BC) and no science courses does raise flags with top colleges.

@happy1 What if i am not interested in science but have taken it for 3 years straight? Im planning on taking AP Calc junior year. Im currently a sophomore and starting to schedule for junior year. Should I have both AP Calc AB and BC junior year or only take AB and take both BC and Stats senior year?

In high school top students normally take AP or IB science classes if available. The time to specialize is in college. You would be better off taking Calc BC or AB rather than both AB and BC. Are you taking a 4th year of language?

^^^I agree. Applicants to the top schools usually take APs in all subjects, not just ones they are interested in. You should talk to your guidance counselor about what schedule rigor is needed for him/her to check off that you took the “most rigorous schedule offered” box on your college application.

@happy1 @Wje9164be I have taken 3 spanish classes already so i can take a 4th. I am planning on taken all AP classes junior year(6) and am taking 2 this year. My class rank is within top 5, might be 2nd soon after semester ends. Do you think counselors will take into account my course rigor for the past too?

Yes, it is over your HS career. Talk to your guidance counselor to get advice/input when setting your schedule.
