Senior year courseload.

This is fine for a senior year course load right?

AP English & Literature
AP Biology
AP Psychology
AP Economics (macro)
AP Computer Science A
1 free period.

The free period is fine I assume? I was thinking about stepping up from Comp Sci A to Comp Sci AB but since I have little prior programming experience, that doesn't seem like a good idea. Some opinions on this would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!

looks good to me

I am taking..
AP Enviro (hehe i am a wuss)
Calc AB (wuss again)
AP Literature
German 4
AP Economics
AP Government

I'm worried about not being able to hand AP Comp Sci A with little programming experience before (only BASIC which kinda doesn't count...). How hard is AP comp sci really? Also, I'll be taking the course online (never took a course online before) so it might be more challenging for me.

AP Comp Science AB include Java based programming with data structure concept. So unless either you already have good programming skills in Java or have an outstanding Computer Science teacher it might not be in your best interests.

College board is taking it off from the course list starting 2009-2010 as not many schools have appropriate teaching staff to handle it.

Ouch. That's exactly what I was hoping against. :(

Any more opinions on AP Computer Science?

My senior year schedule is going to be:

AP Calculus BC
AP Biology
AP Spanish Literature
AP English Language
AP Psychology
Science Research Honors
AP Music Theory

Of course...I'm sure that the schedule won't work out, so I'll probably drop down to a regular level class for one of them. Probably English.

But yes, your schedule looks great. Good luck with all those AP's!

we are taking the same number of Ap classes (5), OP...

/random trivia.

At my school you need to take Java/Advanced C++ to take AP Comp Science.

Here's our list....

Everyone Must Take Computer Fundamentals.

than you can go off to C++

Then you can branch into AI, game programming, Java, or Advanced C++, or web design (php and xhtml)

you can take AP Comp science after you have taken Java or Advanced C++, but Java is recommended.

I recommend taking ATLEAST Java

Right now I'm taking:

AP Calculus AB
AP Human Geography
AP Government
AP Bio II
Academic Decathlon
AP English Lit
Webmastering

Have you take Calculus yet? I think it's a good course to take.

Next year, I'm signing up for:

-English 12 (I hear AP Lit is easier than english 12, any truth to this?)
-AP Comp Sci AB (I learned the basics in AP comp sci A this year, even though the teacher was incapable of teaching; we used an online course but it sucked; college board's doing the right thing taking it out, comp sci is really a college-level subject)
AP Gov
AP Physics B
AP Chemistry
Precalculus HN.
Japanese 1 (Do colleges really care if you take 4 years of the same language?)

starwarsfan: DO NOT take comp sci in high school unless you're planning on being an engineering/comp sci major, which i don't think you are, based on your schedule.

stone_cutter I am planning on being an engineering/comp sci major but those classes are more or less the only ones left to do at my school. Junior year I took Calc, Stats, Phys, Chem... ( all AP)

In that case, take AP comp sci; but expect a lot of self-teaching (I remember my teacher actually teaching comp sci by speaking in front of the class about 4 times the whole year), which you should be accustomed to since you've taken some APs before.
By the way, instead of AP Psy, why not take an AP foreign language?

my schedule for next year:
AP Calc BC
AP Physics
AP European History
AP Art History
Advanced Art Studies
AP English Literature
Yearbook

stone_cutter, So AP computer science i possible taking online and with no programming experience before?

starwarsfan: sure, I took AP comp sci A with no programming experience whatsoever (no visual basic, etc/ i didn't even know what programming meant!) and was able to understand the subject.

I checked the website that my school uses for online courses and it doesn't offer AB anyway. I'll do the A then. Thanks!

Which is the best prep book though? From searching around it seems like Barron's but I just want to be sure.
