Does it? My D is holding back applying to schools because she's hoping that her senior first-semester GPA will factor in and raise the overall GPA. Do most schools count it? Would they count the quarter grades? Do you know if they would factor them in with equal weight to come up with a 4-year GPA? If they don't, there's no reason to hold off sending apps. Nothing else will change. Thanks for your help!

most colleges will have you submit a midyear report of your 1st semester grades, (that happens after you have sent off your application)

Midyear/early senior grades don't generally play much of a role in admission; I would not hold off on sending an application because the change in GPA will not be given much consideration.

I think the advantages of getting the application in early far outweigh any advantage a slight GPA boost at the last minute.
