For EA/ED, neither 1st nor 2nd semester senior year grades will matter in the colleges’ admission decisions. However, they still matter in the sense that you can be rescinded if there was a significant drop in grades.

For regular decision, first semester senior grades will be included in the Mid-Year Report and will be a very important aspect of your application. There are exceptions of course, but in general you can expect many colleges to not make a final decision without having received 1st semester senior grades. Second semester senior grades will be considered for rescinding purposes.

Some colleges don’t care about them, some colleges may consider them, some place a ton of emphasis on 1st semester grades. It tends to be somewhat relative based on the schools you’re applying to probably.

I personally think they’re very important (atleast they were for all the colleges I applied to). There are many arguments regarding their importance as compared to Junior year, but I personally think they’re equally as important if not slightly more so. I say this because they’re the most recent insight on the academic performance of an applicant and it also tends to be the year in which a person is taking the most AP or upper level classes.

Thanks!
& also, if our school includes courses such as gym and some music courses, will colleges like completely ignore it? I think that it is unfair to judge an applicant through non-academic courses.

For instance, my gym teacher rarely gives out even 85’s so that significantly lowers my weighted average. Moreover, my school weights gym twice for some people (like me) and that is just insane, it lowered my average by a ton!!! probably like 3-4 points. But that’s also because he, again, rarely gives out 85’s or better.
