My daughter went to guidance today to update her service hours for her UF application and sat down with her counselor to discuss the possibility of getting into UF. She attends a public high school in Florida where many students get accepted into UF. She had some concerns as her weighted UF gpa is 3.9 and a 28 ACT. She's taking 4 AP level courses, 2 dual enrollment and 1 honors class her senior year and currently has a 4.6 for the semester. Her guidance counselor mentioned to her that UF will be looking in January at her 1st semester scores.

I assumed, based on the posts on this forum, that UF only looks at grades up through the end of the junior year. Is anyone familiar with this?

Ok, I will explain you how this works, when I was a freshman an Admission officer told me that Senior grades are not really evaluated for Admission, however, you have to send those grades because they WILL be evaluated (if accepted) after she finishes her first semester (Fall). If there is a problem with the grades (Ds or Fs) she will get a hold on ISIS and she will have to explain what happened to an Admission officer. Then after that she will be allowed to register for Spring if everything goes fine. I have a friend that sent her grades really late, when Admissions needed those grades for review then she was called. The main thing to keep in mind is to keep the grades up for important subjects like Chem, Math, and English. Good luck with her application!

What if my semester ends on January 18th, and i really wanted my senior grades to be evaulated because I intend on making 5 A’s and two Bs by the semester.

Also One grade might be a C this quarter, and I need the full semester grade to bring that up…??

Any tips? Do they weigh senior grades that much?(I want them too)

Senior grades are not part of the initial admission evaluation process at UF. However, as noted in other posts if the final semester or year end grade is a D or F, UF upon receipt of final transcript can institute a full review of the transcript and reserves the right to withdraw any acceptance for admission. The official letter for admission specifically conditions acceptance upon submission of acceptable final grades

I was always told that they looked at the first semester grades of your senior year, and my guidance counselor last year told me too, but she was wrong about a lot of things, so I don’t know.

But, even if you are accepted, you can’t let your grades drop, because they do evaluate them at the end of the year. I knew this guy who was a few years older than me, and after he was accepted at Florida he dropped his AP classes and started making C’s and D’s, and they revoked his acceptance. I know most people won’t do that, but it’s just an example that your Senior year grades DO count.

I just spoke with one of my friends who has a daughter attending UF and she confirmed that, yes, UF does request applicant 1st semester grades AND end of year transcripts for those who have accepted admission (a UF advisor told them this). She is theorizing that if there are questionable students that they use the 1st semester data to help guide if they are a “yes” or “no” for the February decision. That’s exactly what my daughter’s guidance counselor said as well. So, if this is true, it shows you that you still want to keep grades up your senior year and that a strong 1st semester can make or break you if you are teetering on the edge of a UF decision.
