So I'm from Canada applying to 2nd tier schools like Georgia Tech and U Illinois, and my junior year grades are solid 85+ avgs, which is an A up here in Toronto. However, my Calculus grade this year is like a freakin 65 right now, which is a C. This is really screwing me up, and I'm really worried that my chances may get hurt severely by this. Will it affect my admission seriously, or can I just see if I can raise it up to a B (70%) and that will make sure I don't get revoked? I'm really worried and I'm doing everything I can, but it's just not working!

anyone, please?

Oh I'd also like to note that my other subjects right now are As (87 and 83) (my school has a 4 X 4 Block schedule system).

Colleges definitely don't like C's. Raising it is the best solution. Just think, instead of being on CC right now, you could be studying...

bump anyone else?

You're doomed.

double pst

I'm pretty sure Illinois and Georgia Tech don't consider a 65 a C, nor do they consider an 83 or 87 an A. You may be even worse off than you think.

Don't listen to this guy, (c'mon his user name is "panic) one grade shouldn't kill you if everything else is solid, but raising it to at least a "B" would be nice. Colleges will take your grading system into consideration, since it'll probably be harder to get a 90% in your schools. In fact, I doubt that the colleges will even see your percentage grades, unless your school reports your grades in a highly uncommon way.

Our grades are reported as %s, like 83% or 87%, but in Toronto, 80-100 is considered an A, while 70-79 is a B, and so on. I'm hoping the schools take the grading system in Canada into account, as it is pretty hard to get 90s consistently here.

I'm sure they will. They'll compare you to other people in your school.

Thats BS of the first order. In my school, 80% is a really good score and like 10 people a year end up getting that... It all depends of your grade... and yes, they will take the grading system into account, or they have to.. people applying from other ccountries have their scores looked at too

I sent in my grades in %.. and it orked out fine, I got into some way awesome colleges and am in one now

Basically, there isnt much to say except, 'pull the grade up'. a C may not kill you but there is a good chance of it doing so.... if you get a B, it wont affect you at all

It's probably too late for you to drop down a level in the Calculus class. I suggest you look into getting a tutor. At our hs, Nat'l Honor Society kids tutor after school for free. Also, there are teachers available after school if you need help, or if you can afford it you could hire a tutor. Guidance should be able to help you find someone you can afford.

thanks Lafalum, I think I can pull my grade up to a B+ or A-. Thanks!

i wish thee luck.. go for it!
