Hey guys,
I recently graduated from my High School, and I'm set to go to a school that I'm not excited about. Before I start, I am most definitely going to give the school I'm going to a chance. While I'm not going to give the name, it's a top 25 liberal arts college that accepts around 20% of applicants. I'm dying to go to either Emory (I was waitlisted, then denied), Vanderbilt (flat out denied), or Washington & Lee (I stupidly never applied). My first 3 years of high school were great, almost completely straight A's. Senior year I decided to take 7 classes, 5 of which were AP's. I ended up getting one C (AP Bio), 5 B's (AP French, AP Lang, AP Macro, AP Psych), and one A (Pre-Calc). It was a really rough year. Is it a bad idea to transfer after Freshman year, or should I wait until after Sophomore year? In all honesty, how bad will these grades look to these colleges/other colleges in their league? I'm obviously planning on doing well my Freshman/Sophomore year in college, but when is the best time to transfer?

I’m not an expert, but I think that if you get a solid 3.9+ your first two semesters, you should be fine. Is there any way you can contextualize the bad performance? That would probably help.
