I know your senior year grades are very important but I have a C in AP Literature. It's not because I'm slacking; I have A+ in all my other classes, but the AP Literature teacher in my school is extremely hard and everyone in her class is doing very badly. I can't switch out because all the other English Honors classes are full since a lot of other kids dropped out of AP Literature into those classes. I'm not sure what to do and I don't want colleges to rescind me because they see that my final average in AP Literature is a C.

I'm applying to all the top-notch schools like the Ivies and if I do get in, I don't want them to rescind me because of my C in AP Literature.

A C in AP Literature, or any other class, will not get you rescinded. Acceptances are rescinded for D’s or F’s/felonies/academic dishonesty or things of that nature.

Talk to your teacher. Say you’re concerned about your performance in her class and want to do what you can to improve. Don’t whine about your grade, approach her with humility (even false humility!) and see if she’ll throw you a bone. You’d be amazed how approaching a teacher with concern for your grade (without acting like they’re an ahole for grading hard!) will get you. She might give you an idea of what she’s looking for in your work, or even throw you a bone, re: extra credit assignments. Heck, just you coming to her and asking for help may soften her on you and she’ll grade you more easily. It’s early days; you have time to raise your grade.

Another thought: do you know anyone getting an A in her class? That has ever gotten an A? Find that person and ask them how they did it.

okay the thing is there is another AP Lit teacher in the school and he is a lot easier than the one I have. So if colleges compare my grades with another person’s grades in AP Lit who has the easier teacher, there will be a huge grade difference like a C to an A (I know that almost everyone in the other AP Lit class has an A, and they are all barely trying in that class). Colleges will think I’m extremely stupid or something; I’m also concerned about that.

Lol no one will think you’re stupid bc you’re really smart!!! Colleges can’t compare grades between easier teachers and harder ones. They read a ton of apps and how will they know that that teacher was easier? They won’t. A C won’t affect you if you have As in your classes. Your GPA should be pretty high so you’ll be ok.

thank you! you just made me feel so much better :)
