Hey cc!
I currently have a 3.97 UW GPA for freshman to junior year (1 B) with 3 APs up to that point (max school offered for those grades).

Currently I am taking 5APs this semester and I am really worried about my grades. I may get 2Bs this semester.

Here's my question: Will this drastically affect me for privates rd? Or will they consider course rigor?

Specifically: UChicago JHU WUSTL and UNC (all oos).

So I ended up with 2 Bs, for a total of 3 in HS.
Here is my first semester courseload:
AP Statistics
AP Language
AP Biology
AP French
AP Gov
My cumulative UW GPA is now 3.91. How bad is this?
Specifically for JHU UChicago WUSTL and UNC-CH.
I am an African American male.
33 ACT
800 M2
740 French
740 Biology E
I don’t believe it will have a significantly negative effect on your overall application as long as the rest of your application (especially your essays and extracurricular activities) are solid for these types of schools.
Which courses did you receive these B’s in? If they were for courses that do not correspond to your intended major or broad field of study, then I don’t think that your overall admissions outcome will be different than if you had earned all A’s.
@Episteme
They were in AP Calc AB (got a 5 on the exam) AP Stats and AP Lang.
I am applying for a bio major
I think your AP and SAT Math II score will probably might make up for the B in AP Calculus (or at least confirm that you do not have a deficiency in math skills compared to other applicants). I don’t think that the grades in AP Statistics or AP Language will harm you, but that’s just my opinion. It really depends on how your academic performance stands in the context of your school. Even then, you’re obviously a very strong applicant academically, and I doubt that you will be rejected solely based on 3 B’s.
Is there any other opinions on this?
Agreed. The college(s) decision to accept or reject you will not be based upon 3 B’s.
@skieurope Thank you!
I was mainly worried about the downward trend considering these are the most recent grades before I attended university.
