I have a 4.75 Weighted GPA, and a 3.75 Unweighted. I got all A’s my junior year, but I’m afraid i’m going to get a B in AP Calculus.
My course load junior year:
- AP Statistics
- AP Physics
- PAP Pre-Calculus
- AP English Lang/Comp
- Painting 2
- Symphony Orchestra
- AP US History
- PAP Latin 3
My course load senior year (right now):
- AP Macroeconomics (Took it during summer, ended with an A)
- AP Government (next semester)
- AP Psychology
- AP Environmental Science
- AP English Lit/Comp
- Painting 4
- AP Calculus AB
Now, I got all A’s first semester freshman year, then I began to get distracted and I got a few B’s second semester of freshman year and beginning of sophomore year. Then, at the end of sophomore year, I only got 1 B (That was in math), the rest all A’s, and then junior year I got all A’s.
The problem is, I really, really suck at math, and I might end with a B in JUST Calculus this semester. I’ve already sent transcripts to all the schools I’m applying to, but will this one B on my midyear report be a huge no? I’m nervous. And I did NOT slack off, it’s just Calculus isn’t working with me And I don’t plan on majoring in anything related with math… If that helps?
A general idea to where I’m applying to is NYU, Barnard, USC, and my one dream school, which is Columbia.
Already accepted to UT Austin, Baylor, and Texas A&M as backups.
Please help!
If your overall GPA is that high already, you should be fine. I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that a college (even any ivy league college) will rescind your acceptance because of one B. Since it’s an AP class, it’ll go into your GPA as 4-points, so your weighted GPA will literally go down to 4.60 - 4.65 at worst, and your unweighted GPA will still be relatively close to 3.7, and I’ve never seen a college rescind any college acceptance — or reject anyone — simply due to the fact that they got only a 4.6 GPA and not a 4.7 GPA — or just by having one B in their senior year.
Getting a B does not mean you really suck at math. Getting a D or worse means you either suck at math, or you aren’t working hard enough. I think your problem is that you are are totally stressed out. This goes right into the Much Ado About Nothing category of CC posts. You need to calm down and remove the 12 exclamation marks from the title of your post. If you don’t get into Columbia it won’t be because of a B in AP Calc. And you are already in to some fine schools. Please, relax. Try to enjoy your senior year.
A single B in your senior year will NOT be the reason you didn’t get into a college. Chill
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Why are you bumping twice in 24 hours? Repetitive posts are not allowed. Regardless, the above posters are all correct, so are you looking for someone to contradict them and say that the B will end any potential admissions? Chill. If you get rejected, it won’t be for a B. Regardless, you have some solid acceptances already. Congratulations.
No, I’m not looking for a contradiction. I’m just wondering if everyone is disregarding the fact that I already have a sprinkle of B’s in my earlier years of high school. I pulled myself up strong in 11th grade, but all I’m saying is I’m afraid they’ll think I slacked off because of that B in Calc. Thanks for the feedback!
I think it will only keep you out of MIT.
Columbia is a Lotto School, so if you don’t get in there it won’t be because of the “B.”
Good luck, I’m sure you will have some great options!
