How much do pristine senior grades weigh? Say if one's sophmore and junior year weren't so great (a couple of B's) and one takes a really hard academic load and gets straight A's...

I got straight As first semester senior year and my EA deferred became an RD acceptance. Although they didn’t help as much as I would have liked, based on results from other RD schools. Like you, I had a few Bs sophomore and junior year. It felt kind of bad, because students that had like straight As freshman and sophomore year that went down junior/senior year due to class rigor got into better schools than I did.

well the hypothetical person i brought up in the original post was me obviously and my classes have gotten progressively harder. So is it alright if there’s a dip in grades from a more changing courseload?

This pretty much sounds like me. I’ve taken so many difficult classes throughout my high school career, but my grades have been less than stellar. (Did I mention a few C’s sprinkled around on my transcript? ;_
Because of these low grades, my GPA has dropped a lot. Will my rigorous course load redeem me, however, in the eyes of an adcom? :-/

^Definately, a B or even a C in an AP (or likewise) class is always better than an A in a reg. one.

No I think a A in a reg. class is definitely better than a C. It is a bit more iffy with B in AP vs. A in regular, but I would say A in regular, unless its like B+ in AP vs. A- in regular.
