Senior year math class

Hi all,

Looking for a little advice regarding my situation with math senior year (I’ll be a senior in the fall). I took Calculus BC my sophomore year (got the high grade in the class, 5 on the AP Exam) after taking Pre-Calculus my Freshman year and excelling, which left me with a bit of a problem for junior and senior year. I switched schools and ended up taking Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations my Junior year at the University of Connecticut, getting A’s in both. In addition, I took AP Stats Junior year, finishing with an A+ and a 5 on the AP Exam. Now, I appear to be in the same problem as before. My school does not have a program with UConn for anything other than Multi Calc and DiffEQ (plus I will be working and doing ECs, so no time for a night class anyways), and there are very few classes at my current school that I can take for math credit. If I do not take a math class this year, in any form, will this be seen as a weakness to some colleges, particularly since I intend to go into a program of Physics/Mathematics in college? Will this hurt acceptance, despite the fact that I’ve already exhausted my immediate resources?

If indeed it will hurt me in terms of acceptance, what are some alternatives that I may be able to explore and show to colleges? Online courses, self study?

Thanks everyone!

No. Colleges will expect you to take the most rigorous schedule available within your curriculum. If you’ve exhausted it, you’ve exhausted it. You probably would have been better served pushing off AP Stats to senior year, but that’s water under the bridge at this point.

While not needed for admissions purposes, if you plan on taking higher-level math in college, you might want to explore online options just so you don’t have a year with no math.

Thank you!
