I am a freshman in high school and am taking pre-calculus next semester. Do I have to take math in senior year? Any advice you have on what math I should take in high school would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

It’s highly recommended if you’re looking at top colleges (which if you are 3 years ahead of most math students, I assume you are).

It can be something easier like AP Stats, though.

I’m on the same page as you, cami. There’s four AP math classes out there, 5 if you count computer science, so I’ll probably take one of those. I’ve had so many people ask me what I’m going to take senior year, and I’m like grrr…senior year is so far away, and I’m sure my counselor will help. I’m only one year ahead of my classmates although I could be two.

Thanks for your advice! Do you think it is better to skip junior math and take AP Stats as a senior?

It’s not advisable to take a year off from math, either before college or during. After you finish your math sequence at school, you can look at evening math classes at a local community college or university. For instance, after you finish Calc BC, you can take multivariable calculus and then linear algebra. After that, you go to differential equations and maybe real analysis if you want to be a math major.

Thanks for your advice!
