I'm applying ED.
I have legacy from my dad (also from my aunt and uncle, but I don't think that counts).

Duke has literally been my dream school ever since I understood the concept of college. What do you think my chances are? Is there any way I can improve them?

I don’t think Duke cares about you publishing in school’s literary magazine (no offense at all) but its because they see it as easier than if you publish it in a reputable magazine (like Reader’s Digest or even if you publish a research paper or article). You have a good chance though

pros: legacy
ED
scores
grades
location

cons: ECs (minus the reserach)

overall, i think you have a good shot. you have a lot going for you. i’d really focus on your essays? your research will help answer the research-specific essay question :)

Legacy and ED with those stats? In. Especially if your dad has contributed ANY money whatsover. Legacy admissions rate is ~50% overall; and even higher ED. And you certainly have strong stats as well.

Chill out. I can say you’re getting in.

very nice. good shot :)

great shot…don’t listen to people putting down your high school writing…instead focus on writing fantastic essays…especially your Why Duke…my son got in in my opinion with similar stats to yours, worse class rank and only one EC that was remarkable at all…his essays were however, very unique and strong…
imagine how you specifically will contribute to a corner of the Duke culture and visualize it and say it well…they are building a class…of contributors
my son actually did what he predicted in his essays…he filled a space in campus culture…
so glad he got in…still grateful…Go Duke!

you should apply to stanford

Faline2, I never put down her writing, I only said that publishing in a school literary magazine won’t be seen as significant as publishing in a subscribed magazine. Read carefully, also I said no offense for a reason. I wonder if you ever thought that your post insulted me.
