Senior Year: on-campus job that lasts a year OR

an internship?

Which would you prefer? I just went to an interview with 3 archivists from my campus library. The position they advertised was 20 hours a week, I would be paid minimum wage and it involved learning how to digitize historical records about the university and our city. I graduate next year, and if selected for the job, I wouldn't have to worry about looking for post-graduate employment right away.

However, the job has nothing to do with my major, Corporate Communications. I have 8 classes ahead of me and I'm starting to believe that instead of another job I should apply for internships.

Another issue is the supervisor. I arrived on time for the interview and answered the group's questions, but she appeared to be annoyed with me. The other staff members were friendlier. I feel that I might not be hired because the supervisor has a problem with my presence. Because the department deals with archives, I assumed that I was going to be working with college professors and older people. However this department is run by graduate students and I fear that their attitudes will create a hostile work environment.

Need some advice on what to do!

I’d do something relevant to your major. No one is going to be impressed that you worked at McDonalds if your major isn’t food service.

And I wouldn’t worry about interviewers. You know…not judging a book by its cover. They could be “tough guying” you just to throw you off balance.
