Senior year possibilities

Hello all...it seems like everyone agrees on here that it is just as important to have a rigorous schedule senior year as it is for the other three years. It looks good for college and shows that we haven't yet succumbed to "senioritis" haha. But, my mom has brought up several times recently that she thinks I should just take the required 3 or so classes I have to take this year then leave school early to work a job or something. I disagree, one because I'm looking forward to AP Chem and physics acc this year (both not required), and two because I don't believe it would look great. So, exactly how important is the senior year schedule, and is this really an advisable idea? I highly doubt I would decide to do partial days, but I'm starting to psych myself out a bit thinking of it all..

This is my schedule for next year..

-AP Chem
-AP macro
-Health/photography (only bc health is a half year course)
-Accelerated physics
-Creative writing/mythology (both half-year courses)
-pre-calc

my parents also think my schedule is too time-consuming. I am busy at the barn about three hours after school everyday, but I had a similar schedule last year and feel I can do it again. Thoughts? Thanks everyone!

It really depends on what sort of school you are going for. I agree to push yourself if you are going for schools that are semi selective. If you are going for a state school where almost everyone goes with ultra high admit rate then you likely don’t have to worry about it.

What is the parent’s real motivation here? Too time consuming to do school work, but part time job somehow isn’t time consuming? It doesn’t seem they take your academic ambitions as seriously as you do. So I encourage you to push yourself, I think it is better. There is always time to work and toil away your whole life.

i think its fine. It doesn’t look that difficult to me honestly.

If you think you can handle it, I think you should continue to push yourself. Taking only 3 courses will make it look like you’re slacking off, and besides, you want to be prepared for the rigors of college academics right? Honestly, I would keep you’re schedule the way it is, especially since you feel like you can handle it.

@BrownParent‌ I will definitely have my safeties, but I will apply to selective schools. I believe you are right in your assumptions, and give good advice. Thank you!

@guineagirl96‌ it isn’t really difficult, I believe my past year was worse! Thank you for your input/advice!

@jinx123445‌ you make a couple of really good points, all of which I agree with. Thank you for your input!

If it’s similar to your last schedule (considering your last schedule wasn’t entirely too time consuming), you should be fine. It’s a much better option than simply taking an easy schedule and breezing through your senior year because it’ll only help you in the long run. If you pass those AP tests and get college credit, that’s a huge plus for you and your parents’ wallet as well.
