Senior Year Recruiting

I am a Senior and I play baseball. I have not been really recruited much I have only talked with a few coaches before. I would like to at least walk on and play baseball at one of the schools I applied to. My coach is talking me up to these coaches and has a relationship with a couple of them. He is very well respected and our team is one of the top in California and the country. I am a knuckleballer which is very rare and I was wondering if it is possible for me to possibly play baseball at these school. The schools are all D1's.

I am not familiar with the baseball recruiting process, but generally, D1 schools have finished recruiting for next year. Walk-on try-outs have become more difficult for schools in recent years due to liability issues. Many schools do not hold them, and those that do often require full physicals and a lot of paperwork before-hand. You would have to contact the coaches of each school you are interested in to find out their policies. I would say to continue playing tournaments with your team and try to find out if any college coaches will be attending. If so, e-mail the coach before any tournament and be sure to follow-up with phone calls. Keep calling until someone actually answers as they get so many calls they may not return a message. Don’t be afraid to “market” yourself- in other words be sure to let them know of your accomplishments and why you would be a great player for their team. LIke I said, I am not familiar with baseball recruiting, and hopefully someone who is will answer your post. Did you apply to any D2 or 3 schools that might be an option? Also, you might consider looking at playing on the club level in college. Many of the club teams are extremely competitive and often the players are those who might have been good enough to be recruited, but maybe didn’t want to commit to a D1 sport.
