Hi people! I just wanted to get people’s opinion on this. I’m going to be a senior, and I’m planning to apply to Ivies, Stanford, UCs, and other elite schools like MIT. However, my senior year course load will be slightly less rigorous than my junior year load since I have to take a fine art to comply with the UC a-g requirements. How will colleges see this?
Junior Year Course Load: AP Biology, AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus AB, AP US History, Spanish 3rd Year, and Athletic Theory (Have to take it to be in the Swim and water polo teams)
Senior Year Course Load: AP Calculus BC, AP Physics 1, AP English Literature and Composition, Gov/Econ (1 each semester), Drumming (the fine art I need), and Athletic Theory
My unweighted gpa is 4.0 and my weighted rank gpa is 4.7.
Thanks for the help in advance!
Your schedule looks fine, and the schools you apply to understand that you must meet graduation requirements.
It’s a requirement for the University of California schools and not necessarily anything else.
That’s still okay. You are planning to apply to UCs so will need to meet the requirements.
This looks fine. Don’t worry!
i would try to take art online at a community college. i was in the same position. my junior year i had 6 weighted classes and senior year i need 6 weighted in order to stay #1. i am enrolled in an art class online and it is worth it. try talking to your counselors as soon as possible though.
Thanks for all of your opinions about the fine art! I know I’m definitely taking rigorous classes this coming year.
Your schedule is very competetive. If you talk to your counselor about your situation, then they can note the requirement on your recommendations. Also, if you want to explain you class choices on the common app. Still, I maintain that your schedule is all right.
