Senior Year Schedule

I can't believe it's finally here.

We have senior programming tomorrow, and I need some advice as to what courses I should take.

Here's what I'm taking for sure:

Marching Band
AP English Literature
AP Comparative Government
AP Computer Science
Calculus CD Honors (D is multivariable)
Blank

I'm taking four APs right now (AP Physics C, AP Calc AB, AP English Lang, APUSH).

I've taken the challenging science courses in my school (AP Physics C, self-studied AP Chem), and I can't take AP Bio because I took regular Bio too long ago. Our school offers AP Chem, but I didn't take it and just self-studied it (bad move), so taking it wouldn't make any sense. Does AP Compsci count as a science or a math elective?

The Band system goes like this: All students must sign up for Concert Band if they take Marching Band. However, if the person has a full academic schedule, they must sign a contract saying they will take Concert Band in the second semester only, when Marching Band is finished.

Your suggestion is greatly appreciated.

I'd vote to take AP Chem. You can suppress whatever your self-study score was on this test and send the score you get after taking the course.

Calculus CD !?! gasp

Isn't that harder than Calculus BC AP!?! I take AB, and think that's hard enough. CD must be like... taught by MIT professors.

But, by all means take that, seeing as I've never seen anyone on this board take Calculus CD, and I'm sure it'd look very positive on your application!

I got a 5 on the AP Chem test. I think it might be a waste of time to take the class, though. But it's an almost an automatic A.

Our school puts each semester of Calc as a letter (A, B, C, D, and possibly E).

Calc C is what you learn at the end of AP Calc BC (Taylor Series, polar, etc.).

Would a free class, like TA or Concert Band, be okay?

sorry, I misunderstood your "bad move" comment above. If you have already gotten a 5 on the AP, I agree that you should not take the course now.

Trust me you can handle AP Bio. Theres kids at my school who took AP Bio without even taking regular Bio so honestly go for the AP Bio, it would be much more impressive than some random elective. Also AP Com Sci does not count as a science or a math it's on its own plane.

On a separate note you mentioned you are taking AP Calc AB and AP Physics C together this year. May I just ask how hard it is because I was considering taking Clac AB and Phys C next year, but I thought the Calc I would get from AB wouldn't be enough, but since you're in the situation you should be able to give me a solid opinion, so really how is it?

Where are you with your language req? Does your school offer AP Language?

I had my senior year registration a couple of weeks ago. If there are no scheduling conflicts, I should have these:

-AP Language & Composition
-AP Government & Economics
-Honors Pre-Calculus
-Honors Chemistry
-"Advanced Systems Physiology"
-Chamber Choir
-Biology
-English 10

The latter two I need to make up because I took a year off to study abroad in Japan last year.

mike, it was a struggle for me. Physics C is one of the hardest courses I've ever taken. If you can, take a regular Physics class or self-study some physics during the summer. I made huge leaps last summer (Algebra 2-->AP Calc AB with Math Anal over the summer), but my math background has been enforced pretty well.

Our school does not allow students to take AP Bio without taking regular Bio last semester. I took regular Bio in the 9-->10 summer, so it's too long ago.

As for AP Language, I have AP Spanish Language as a possibility, but I don't want to overload my schedule. I've gotten A's since Spanish 2, but I heard AP Spanish is pretty hard.
