I have worked pretty hard since freshman year, but my rank dropped when I made the mistake of double blocking physics and chemistry (and I got my first B). Senior year, I want to take it easy. I have heard good and bad things about dual credit vs. AP, but I am taking dual econ and gov next year. Has anyone taken dual or AP that can advise me on what to take? My classes are AP Calc AB, AP Chem, AP Lit, dual econ and gov. My electives are AP Art 2D, Student Congress, Microbiology/1 semester class Im not sure of yet ( any suggestions?), Independent Study Mentor ship, and probably early release (as I will be getting a job senior year). This is not a rigorous schedule, do you have any suggestions for me? Should I not take early release? I am taking it due to zero hour gov and econ, and many people are saying it is a good idea. Please help!

It really depends on your situation, intended major, and the schools you’re applying to. If they accept the college credit for the dual enrollment, I recommend doing that instead of the AP courses. I don’t see anything wrong with getting released early, especially if you plan on working. You can actually use that your advantage by stating the reason behind it (financial issues, saving for college, ect.) As long as you do well in these classes, you should be fine.

Your schedule would look rigorous even to selective colleges, with 6 advanced (AP/dual) classes and 4 core classes. Since you’re taking a period zero, you could take early release, it’s not as if you were not taking the regular number of classes in the day (ie, early release and no period zero).
