Senior Year Sports

Is it going to seriously hurt my application if I do not run cross country my senior year? I ran for the past three years and earned a varsity letter but was not able to continue this year due to an injury that surfaced. I am going to play varsity club lacrosse this year ( I played last year as well), so I will still have a sport.

Oh and I was also wondering how quickly candidates find out if they recieved a waiver on the medical exam or not because it says I need a remedial.

since lax requires a lot of running- sprinting and quick change of direction- will need to consider if you will be doing more harm than good if you are dealing with a running-type injury...

as for DoDMERB, much depends on what type of injury, and if it is something that will resolve, be a chronic issue, or be enough of an issue that it will prevent you from participating in physical activites (including running) at USNA,

As far as waivers, you will need to have your file reviewed by USNA. First check with DoDMERB as to what type of remedial they are looking for- is it just a matter of submitting additional information, or do you need more testing done? Find that out first before proceeding with a request for a waiver. Both processes can take some time, so the sooner you can get started on this the better.

as for what to do in senior year- what you want to do is what your doctors will clear- what you don't want to do is anything that will prevent, or delay, the healing process or cause you further injury on top of what you have- so follow your orthopod's advice!

Best of luck!

You don't need a waiver from USNA (yet). You haven't been disqualified (yet).

A "remedial" means that DoDMERB needs more information concerning s specific part (or parts) of your physical. You would submit whatever info they are requesting to them, not USNA. MANY remedials are "cleared" after the necessary information is submitted, qualifying the candidate.

Only when your DoDMERB status changes to "DISQUALIFIED" will you then need a waiver.

For USNA: There is no need for you to request a waiver. If you are competitive for an offer of admission to the United States Naval Academy or one of their preparatory programs, you will automatically be considered for a waiver by USNA. The Admissions Department will contact you if there are additional requirements for the waiver process.

Thank you so much! < huge sigh of relief> So how do I find out what information they need from me for the remedial? Or will they contact me?

For us it was a form for the orthodontist that stated his braces were removed and he had no further issues. A few days after we mailed it in he had cleared DODMERB.

Okay, my deal is that I will not be playing Varsity Tennis for my school. I will although be playing Club Soccer and maybe Soccer for the school. Do I just let USNA know that I will be participating in sports outside of school?

^^^^would include them
