Hi there. Just like many people I know, I am continuously going back and forth on what classes to take for senior year. So just for some background info...
My Junior Year:
AP Comp
APUSH
Adv.Algebra(or Algebra 2)
French 5/6
Chemistry( which is horrible in my personal opinion....)
and Ceramics(who cares.)
Anyway my issue is I got decent grades but not good enough...because I got a C in Math. A mix of having a bad teacher and many personal issues made math not be my priority. I know I can handle 2 AP's(english I got an A, apush B+) but my issue is which ones. Finally, my true questions are...
1) Is it possible to handle AP Lit, AP Econ, and APES? oh and at my school my first semester i would have Government and AP Econ at the same time...
2) What is AP Econ like? Is it easy hard? Am i being realistic...
Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks so much

This question is best answered by yourself. People have different strengths and capabilities (Some people can handle 6, some prefer to take fewer). Ask yourself how much you would need to be a competitive applicant at the college you’re aiming for.

Its definitely possible. It is a commitment and you need to be willing to spend the time you need to learn the material. Gov and Econ are usually paired so don’t worry, they’re pretty small courses

Econ requires basic arithmetic (can you add/subtract, do you know what slope is) so don’t worry if Math isn’t your strong point. Be prepared for a fair amount of logical reasoning: price goes up, so demand goes down yada yada. Give it a go.

A note: if you want to do well, make it a priority and get it done, see it through regardless of how much work you need to put in outside of class, regardless of the ****ty teacher you may have (welcome to public school). If you don’t feel like putting that much time in (how much time, depends on how fast you learn) then be prepared to not get a perfect grade. Its always up to you.

Getting a GPA of 3.0 with all AP classes is equivalent to a 4.0 with regular classes.
AP courses count towards college credit so by doing well (3.0) you have a greater chance of being accepted to a university that a student with a 4.0 because you have proven that you can get a 3.0 in college level courses.
I’m taking a class in college right now and today we were just talking about how students who have AP courses graduate college in 4 years, rather than the new average of 6 years, because they are entering college with units.
Take the AP and just try and get Bs.
Start emailing the counselors of the colleges that you want to apply to as well and ask for their opinion.
It’s always better to start talking with counselors ASAP.

thanks for the help. i do realize you have to rise above bad teachers ive been in high school long enough to understand that. i guess i will have to consider the time commitment. i most likely at this point just want to take ap lit and ap econ because apes is so much busy work at my school. it doesnt seem super interesting which means i wont actually do anything for the class…but thanks to you both for the input it helps to have different point of views!
