Senior Year

Hello guys!
These are my assumed classes for senior year.
-Homeroom
-Statsistics
-Econimics
-(And now 4 AP)
-AP Physics 1
-AP Spanish Language and Culture
-AP Studio Art
-AP U.S Government

I am going to take a “college level” political science class at a CC.
Will colleges see that I went from 1 college level course to 4, like to show that I took initiative and made my final year harder?

No English? Most high schools require English every year. It may even be required for graduation by your state.

If you do take English, I hope that the course includes some attention to spelling, especially when it comes to words like economics and statistics.

Agghh I totally forgot about English haha, and no need to be harsh, it’s just a simple spelling mistake…

Definitely take English honors (or AP English language if they allow you to).

What colleges are you aiming for?

What’s your current weighted and unweighted GPA? What about sat/act scores?

Have you talked with your parents about college budget? If not, look for the npc on your state flagship, an ‘easy’ private school and a 'reach ’ private school, and talk about costs : can your parents afford all three from their current income and savings? If not how much can they afford? Can they start saving a little every morning if they haven’t started?

Please consider consolidating your threads.

You’ve already been advised by the CC parents and been given good advice.

My school honestly sucks, we don’t have honors classes nor AP English.
I don’t have much of a preference for colleges really.
I have a bad GPA and low test scores
W:3.2 UW:2.9
ACT:18
SAT:(Scores till July I think)
My parents never graduated hence they have no idea what’s in store for me, we have no savings for my tution, they don’t make much yearly…
But they do know that I need money for college, so I’m unsure of what will happen…

I don’t understand, I can ask as many questions as I need, you don’t need to respond nor help.
It’s for those who want to.

Can you estimate how much your parents make? Are you on reduced lunch at school, for example (if so, you’re automatically qualified for test fee waivers and application fee waivers. If you qualify but didn’t take the opportunity to avoid stimatization, the rules now state that if you qualify even if you don’t take it, you qualify for fee waivers. Go see your guidance counselor on Monday.)
Can you take a community college class this summer (in some states/districts it’s free for HS students, check with your local college under “concurrent enrollment” or “high school students” or “running start” or “pseo”)? Taking an English class would help both your transcript and your writing/reading (thus helping admission twice: by increasing test rigor and by increasing EBR test scores!)
What state do you live in?

An estimate of how much they make before taxes would be like ~$40,000.
Yes I am on free lunch.
I am taking an Community College Class, it’s political science, and it starts next Monday actually haha.
EBR scores? I assume that has something to do with the SAT?
I live in California.

@reidislovely
ok so make sure you ask your GC for your SAT fee waivers - SA, ACT, and SAT Subjects (if you have a subject where you really shine!)
Also that means you’re automatically qualified for application fee waivers for 4 UC’s, 4 CSU’s, and all Coalition App + CommonApp colleges.
EBR is the English part of the SAT
Great wrt the Political Science class at Community College. Fingers crossed for a good grade.

4 AP classes is a LOT for your Sr year. With your current GPA I really think it is a recipe for disaster and, even if you manage straight As, that schedule won’t make much difference when it comes to admissions. If you get great grades. you won’t have any time for sleep. If you get a D or F in one, you are likely to have any acceptance rescinded. PLEASE step back to one or two APs next year. It is impossible you would regret it.

With a 3.2 W, and 18 ACT, UCs aren’t likely to accept you. I’d focus on mid tier CSUs like Sac, Sonoma and San Marcos. Perhaps starting at a local CSU or CC so you can live at home and save the room and board expense.

Good luck.

^Shoot I’d missed the 18 ACT. => @ReidIsLovely : You need to really prepare methodically, review everything you missed, perhaps try the ACT (borrow “the ACT for bad test takers”, it’s designed for kids who scored 17-22), review every notion one by one then do lots and lots of exercises from the practice books and Khan Academy, so that you increase your score.
I agree that you may have taken more than you can chew if your GPA is 2.9 with one AP.
California will rescind your admission if you get a D, so it may be too risky to take 4. To stay on the safe side, perhaps drop the AP you’re least certain about and replace it with an equivalent class (like take Physics rather than AP Physics1, or Regular Studio Art rather than AP Studio Art…)
If you manage to increase your score you may have a shot at UCM. Sonoma is test optional for students from California. Your local CSU would admit you for sure if you manage to increase that score to a 21 and if you apply to a non impacted major.
What do you want to major in?

I ended up taking AP Physics, Gov, and Spanish Lang.
I got 1040 on the SAT so that is an improvement from my previous score.
The AP or college level classes were not difficult, its simply because I was not interested in the school that I did poorly in it. For example all my Math classes (excluding geometry) I had passed with a low C, but in my college classes, I would pass with a B or an A.

I have three types of subjects that I would like to major in, these are the top 3 at least. Criminology, Psychology or Political Science.
