<p>Hi I’m a senior in a public high school and I am really worried if my admission will get rescinded from Boston University for having a D in my ap chemistry class. all my other classes (3 other AP’s, 3 other Honors class, and 1 regular class) are all B, coincidentally. It used to be better when I applied there in December, AP chem being a C, but I had one or two D in my 10th grade year as well.
will my admission get rescinded? ;(( what should I do at this point to reduce the chance of not getting rescinded?
should i just be straight honest and tell the admission committee that i have d in that class? ;((
please help Q.Q im so desperate ;((((</p>
<p>You are justified in worrying. You should find out for sure, ASAP. </p>
<p>1) Are you are sure you’re getting a D? Is school over? I realize that it’s an AP class and grades might be finalized. Find and ask your teacher.<br>
2) If so, ask your guidance counselor to call BU and find out if you will be rescinded. You need to know, ASAP. You might just be put on academic probation.
3) If you are rescinded, start applying to schools that are still accepting applications. There are a bunch. You need to have this all done before school closes and the administration goes on summer break. In our Massachusetts public school, the guidance department is out the last day of school, and doesn’t return until a week before school starts in the Fall. Basically, if you wait until school’s out, there might not be anybody to send in your transcripts and recommendations. </p>

;(((
- yes, schools is over and it is finalized that i got a D ;((
- oh… i didnt know i had that option… academic probation; that’s still guaranteed an admission, right?
- that’s true… ;((( wow… never thought of going to any other school than BU but if that’s what i might have to do… ;(
thanks so much for your candid concerning response…</p>
<p>You don’t have an option. BU has an option. They also have the option to rescind you. </p>
<p>You need to get with your guidance counselor and have her call and find out for sure. If she won’t, I’m afraid that you’ll need to make that call. Having her do it is probably better. </p>
<p>My point is that you need to know for sure before the staff leaves for the summer in case you need more transcripts sent from your HS. </p>
<p>The worst thing you can do is not worry and hope everything is ok. It’s not ok. You need to know for sure. </p>
<p>I don’t think that they will rescind you, but they just might. They have grounds to. If there is a procedure for you to avoid rescission you need to know what it is. </p>
<p>The best thing you can do is call and ask directly - knowing is better than not knowing. However, I do not believe that they will rescind you - colleges don’t want to rescind you and only do so in extreme cases; it is easier for both the student and the college if they aren’t forced to kick out a student and fill that spot with a wait listed applicant who may or may not have lost complete interest in the school. </p>
<p>thanks @ClassicRockerDad , @preamble1776
i made my couns call them but i think it only made it worse for projecting myself a spotlight when it might’ve not a big deal. they couldn’t give him any answer. maybe i didn’t have to worry much like you said, preamble.
i’m all blanked out now.</p>
<p>Because of FERPA rules they can’t say anything to your cousin legally. Likely they will only be able to talk to you. Also they may not have received your final grades yet from your high school so they probably don’t know themselves at this point. Your best bet is to talk it over with your school guidance counselor. One D probably won’t be a problem I don’t think.</p>
<p>It was his guidance counselor, not his cousin who called. They should be able to talk to a guidance counselor so he could provide guidance. I don’t think calling made it any worse. </p>
<p>OP, I think you should call and get a straight answer. Nobody else knows if it’s going to be a problem. They are certainly within their rights to rescind you, but it would be cruel to not tell you. Schools do rescind for Ds. There have been many rescinded posters who have posted over the years. </p>
<p>If you cannot get a straight answer, I would look at schools still taking applications. I would identify some, call up the admissions office, explain what happened, explain the D and see if they would hold a D in AP Chemistry against you. </p>
<p>A list of schools can be found here:
<a href=“http://www.nacacnet.org/research/research-data/College-Openings/Pages/College-Openings-Results.aspx”>http://www.nacacnet.org/research/research-data/College-Openings/Pages/College-Openings-Results.aspx</a></p>
<p>Once you’ve identified one or more schools that will take you, you need to have your your school send them the paperwork (transcripts and recommendations) so that your high school not being in session won’t be an impediment for you to apply, be admitted, and start college somewhere in the fall. </p>
<p>The thing you need to be wary of is getting rescinded over the summer when there is nobody in the guidance office to forward your transcripts. Since many colleges start in August and high schools don’t start until September, it would simply be logistics preventing you from attending college this fall should you get rescinded. </p>
<p>I think that “don’t worry about it” is the worst possible advice that you can be given. </p>
<p>What state are you from?</p>
<p>@kayhardtbu yea it was my counselor. should’ve wrote ‘counselor’. now that i think about it, i don’t think they will reject me for one D, but who knows, like @ClassicRockerDad said. but my counslr doesn’t know himself either, and he’s not too sure because my other ap science(physics c) grade that i took this year is B. and ap bio from last year’s also B as well, so… idk anything at this point.</p>
<p>CRD;
yeah i looked the link up and kinda decided what colleges to apply for plan b… but now i don’t care anymore for having stressed over it too much. i hope bu doesn’t reject me, but if they do, i’ll think of it as their loss for missing me from judging my grades. it’s true the grades reflect the work ethics, but oh well it’s just this year that happened to be. i learned my lesson from it so it’s likely that i’m not doing it again. i’ll survive and succeed at anywhere i go, so.
this ‘rationalization’ could be rooting from the fact that i’m from florida, but this is how i feel now.
Thank you much for dedicating your time trying to help me settle down and giving advice in every possible way. but i would say taking a gap year for failing to matriculate in fall semester isn’t too bad unless i can’t get into any good ones in the following year, since you will learn and experience in anything you do and those time of experiences help you to be a better, mature person after all, in the long run. Life is long, and i don’t want to be panicking and stressed out so much now.
lol i’m chillin to the extreme here.</p>
<p>@senioritis102 - I’m being 100% genuine here when I say that it is highly unlikely that they’ll rescind you.</p>
<p>Agreed with above it will never happen, especially over one grade, actually its laughable you are worried. Wait till you get a D in college, then worry a bit…</p>
<p>Now commit a felony, have your diploma pulled or something ( or misdemeanor drug offense thanks to the Bush administration, that’s a different story-but many schools do not require a HS diploma to attend</p>
Hi @senioritis102 i was wondering if you were rescinded/academic probhation/accpeted. I am in the same situation and would like to know what to do.
If you post a YouTube video making racist jokes or are accused of rape, you will be rescinded. BU does require a high school diploma, they are not desperate for students like some schools are.
BU’s acceptances aren’t conditional (or at least mine isn’t) so i wouldn’t worry. I wouldn’t shed light to the situation though. If you’re still worried, and if you were previously acquainted to your guidance counselor, then talk to him/her.
that’s not gonna happen. (I worked in the admissions office) there are way too many applicants for them to look up everyone’s grades. You shouldn’t have had your counselor call them though because now they know
Not gonna happen, first you passed so the credit counts, and even an F would not disqualify you unless you wound up short on hours and most kids with APs will not be short on those.
I would be more worried about being successful at a school as rigorous as BU though, that’s your real problem.
Additionally, I am always worried about student who say they have senoritis, sometimes it can be illustrative of something that needs to be looked into, lack of interest especially if it is exhibited as an abnormal behavior can be evidence of depression and a lot of studnets who have worked hard when they get into their dream schools actually have differnet reactions than elation… just a thought
