Senioritis...sort of

So I have a question about Barnard and midyear reports. This year, I’m pretty overwhelmed with college applications and am more AP classes than I ever had. What would usually be A’s and A-'s for me have consequently fallen to B+'s. I’m worried that my midyear report is going to read:

AP Bio - B-
APUSH - B+
AP Econ - B+
AP German - A-
Latin I - A+

That looks TERRIBLE to me. Will it have a negative impact on whether or not I’m accepted? I know I’m not failing, but if I tried harder, ie; if I spent every waking moment of my life either at my job, doing college apps, or doing schoolwork, then I would have A’s. I hear that midyear reports are just to make sure that you’re not completely blowing off your senior year. You can hardly call B+'s in APs blowing my year off, can you? I’m worried that they won’t think I can handle their curriculum or something. :-/ But then my friend just got into UPenn, and they told her that as long as she doesn’t fail the rest of high school, she’ll be in at their school.

So in other words, how much do midyear reports count?

Here's my opinion on that...

As long as you have presented a strong record in your transcript, you are fine. Barnard and all other colleges do understand that seniors have a ton of stuff going on. I totally get that having Bs looks terrible to you, but they're not bad grades in all reality (which is hard to convince yourself of that). I wouldn't worry as long as you put in a great application and you have shown them that you have been a good student.

Have you already been admitted ED or are you applying RD? I am not sure what effect it would have, if any for RD, but if you were already admitted, I am sure it would not matter at all.

Sorry I can't be of any more help. B-plusses are NOT bad, after all...

I'm applying RD, and I know they aren't bad...it's more or less the quantity. Plus it looks worse because of blockscheduling, which I have not taken to at all. Just a way to shove more work down our throats. But anyway, thank you all for the input!

I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you have 4 strong years behind you.

I'm in the same boat as you ikatfabric, except my grades look super ambiguous because my school doesn't do +/-.

Good to know I'm not alone, brandnewstate. Let's just hope that the rest of our apps outweighs this. My cumulative GPA for my first three years of high school is a 3.81, and for my senior year it's a 3.5.

Yeah, let's hope so! I really want to go to Barnard

I wouldn't worry too much :) I'm sort of the opposite. I have really good grades for this year and last year, but my freshman and sophomore grades had some not-so-good grades. I think I actually have a C on my transcript from Freshman year, but I was admitted Early Decision. They definitely look at more than just your grades :)
