So far, I'm 3 in 5. I got accepted into UM- Ann Arbor, UIUC and Wellesley. I'm still waiting on 6 more colleges though.

wildcherry would u prefer UM or UIUC? just out of curiosity

Definitely U of M. IMO, it's a better school overall and plus, I need to get out of Illinois.

well... ure name is "gosh, i love illinois"... lol

Yeah, I was going for sarcasm there.. huh. :)

wildcherry if you are doing engineering i would imagine that UIUC is better than UM in that field. After all UIUC is ranked 5th whereas UM is ranked 7th

For other fields UM is prolly better..

No worries, I'm not going anywhere near engineering and the like. I plan to be an english or history major. I don't think I'm going to end up at UM anyway. I'm crossing my fingers on more acceptances from colleges on the east coast. :)

What universities are you waiting for replies from? Let me guess.... cornell, columbia, harvard??

I applied to Columbia ED and was rejected. ::shrugs:: I was kind of expecting it but anyhow, I'm waiting to hear back from UPenn, Brown, Dartmouth, Amherst, Williams and NYU.

What about you?

I applied to MIT, caltech, harvey mudd, umich-aa, ut-austin, clarkson u, u of s.florida....

heard back from u of s.florida and clarkson u and got scholarship for both... waiting to hear from the rest

also applied to ANU in australia and going to apply to NUS in singapore (im from thailand btw)

wildcherry can you please post your stats... i would like to see how you got rejected from columbia but accepted at umich

Maybe because Columbia is more selective than umich?

Yes... I applied to UMich but havnt heard replies yet... I hear the select the more qualified candidates first? I just would like to know your stats so i can see if i have a chance of gettin in UM

I just sent you a PM. :)

Yeah, Columbia has like a 13% acceptance rate so believe me, it really wasn't that big of a shocker. lol.

13% is the overall acceptance rate for all colleges. If you look at the breakdown the acceptance rate varies from colleges. For example, college of engineering has the highest acceptance rate than any other columbia colleges

Columbia's engineering school, along with many other engineering schools, are quite self-selective. Applicants are more likely to be qualified and are very focused in their tech backgrounds.

AcceptedtoCollegeAlready may i ask you a question.. I understand that columbia's engineering is very good.. no doubt.. but how come it is pretty low on the engineering ranking.. about rank 15-25 for different rankings, having schools like purdue and UCSD beating it

Yes, though many top applicants do not care about individual rankings. Overall prestige is enough for schools like Columbia (their engineering students are definitely better off than those from Purdue and the like).

Many students merely look at overall National rankings instead of individual.

How about comparing columbia's engineering to Umich and UT-Austin?

I'd still take Columbia based on its overall prestige. Not to mention a lot of students like the option that if they wanted to switch majors, they could do so without losing much quality in their education.
