Do you think taking AP exams and getting a 5 will help you later on in any way?

I think some people enjoy the challenge. For me, next year, I’ll be taking 7 for social reasons as well (most my friends are AP students). I probably won’t study as hard as I am this year.

Because I didn’t learn that med schools don’t like students using AP to get out of classes in undergrad, until after I paid for the test.
Because it feels weird to take the class and study for a whole year and not take the test.
Because I wanna prove that I can do well.
Because I am an overachiever.
BUT MOSTLY because I’m stupid. Haha.

Well, I took the class, might as well take a shot at the exam, considering I’ve already taken practice exams in most of these classes anyway. Plus, my school refunds us the AP money if we pass with a 3 (which I’m pretty confident I will).

aznjunior, you do realize that ap classes, if accepted by your future college, allow you to bypass the entire college class right? Its as if you took the class at the college. Taking ap exams and passing them will save you thousands of dollars in the long run.

Short story:
My school supplements our tests by paying $43 toward it. If we don’t take the test we have to pay the $43 the school would have paid AND we won’t get AP credit on our transcript.

So, I’m basically taking two of my 4 aps just because the price I’d have to pay is the same and so I can keep my #3 spot in class.

why would you not get credit?

I’m saying that after you know what college you are going to and know that you won’t receive credit, what are peoples’ reasons?

I can’t decide if I should take the lit test… I abhor lit and don’t know how well I would do, but I feel guilty and lazy for not taking it. My school has us pay the complete 86 dollars ourselves.

Well it’s always nice to have the option to skip courses. Given AP curves, it shouldn’t be too difficult to squeeze out a passing score that your college will accept, so you might as well try. I feel that it’ll be worth it even if you don’t get to use that credit; what if in the future, you go “I wish I had tried for that test?” The feeling of regret and self-achievement is really what I’m focusing on, regardless of whether or not I actually get credit. (Plus, I feel kind of left out when all my friends get their 5s).

This is something like thread #5 discussing the same exact thing in the past two weeks. Check out some of the other threads floating around, because they have some good information. :)

Why am I taking them?

Because before I got into college, I was a masochist.

However, I do appreciate the fact that these exams have forced me to learn that time management is necessary, although I don’t apply that rule to myself.

because my tests are already paid for plus I can get National AP scholar, though MIT barely gives credit for most 5’s

aznjunior> oh, I thought you were referring to taking ap exams as being a waste of time but I get what you mean now and I totally agree with you. If you aren’t getting any college credit for the ap exam, don’t bother taking it. Waste of time.

Because if we don’t take it, we cannot be exempt from our final exams.

I’m taking 5 AP exams as a senior. I only care about my Calc AB exam, because I enjoy math and I’ll be majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

I never signed up for any APs that I wouldn’t be getting credit for in college.

Because CollegeBoard knows college decision dates and makes the deadline for AP signup before then. So of course, I paid and discovered that CU doesn’t give credit.

But I can’t skip because if I don’t show on test day, I’m charged a “fee” by my lovely school.

And if I don’t pay that fee, I can’t graduate.

Wonderful system, no?

My school doesn’t give you AP credit if you don’t take the exam.
You will get your courses changed to honors on your transcript.

My college does not accept AP credit. It’s a waste of time and money for me, but I have to do it or else my college may see I “switched” to honors and rescind me. I could have talked to my college, but chances are it would seem like an excuse or that I was “slacking off”.

Whatever, what’s done is done.

Also my school makes me us pay 90 dollars for each test. bleh.

I am getting credit for APs. Unfornately only one: AP Calculus BC. But at least I get to skip two courses. :)

because at my school if you don’t take the AP test, you have to take a final that is worth 20 percent of your grade…so i’ll stick to AP testing
