So I had a scheduled interview with an admissions officer this weekend. Two hours before the interview, I found out about a tragedy that occurred night before where a friend was murdered. I tried really hard to put it out of my mind during the interview- but when something like that happens it is extremely hard to deal with, and it very well could've had a negative effect on my interview. On the common app for that school, should I mention it in the additional comments section?

Thanks for your help

How badly did it affect your interview? Unless the interview itself went terribly wrong, I wouldn’t bother including it. It may just be that you are worrying about it too much for nothing, and more likely than not you made a positive impression. I don’t think it is necessary to excuse on day of interaction with the interviewer. They understand that people have bad days or may simply not connect with the interviewer. That’s why most colleges don’t weight them that heavily. Putting it on the app almost brings extra attention to it for nothing

You could go talk to your GC, and they could communicate with the school.
