I wrote my college essay about how I lacked a relationship with my father, but it made me the person I am today since now I fulfill every relationship that is presented to me in my life and make it grow into a family bond. Within the essay I brushed upon some of my fathers alcoholic episodes... Should I take it out or should I leave it in so the admissions office can really see who I am?

I would keep the essay, but take out any detailed descriptions of your father’s alcoholism.

I think it’s acceptable to have that in your essay. That said, it’s a risk, as there is a genetic predisposition to addictions and colleges will not want much to do with an alcoholic.

It’s really up to you. If you think it deserves a place in there, go for it. If you think it’s extraneous, well maybe not.
