I sent a 745 word essay instead of a 500 word essay to Yale.

Would it effect my admission?

Would it effect my admission?

they're going to see your essay and be like AUTOREJECTZ!!!!11!one

I did the same thing for another college... not too worried

I don't know, although most people have told me that going 50 - 75 words over is acceptable, as it isnt acceptable. However, 745 would probably be noticeable, and it honestly depends on whether or not the person reading your app is a stickler about these things.

My Common App essay was 725 words. Same one I sent to Brown. For Columbia, just because they're apparently really picky about this stuff, I cut out one paragraph and ended up with 650.

You'll be fine.

agreed as long as its interesting all the way through!
but there is no sense in worrying about it now!

Yale gets about 20,000 applicants, each with essays and scores and more essays. I bet they don't like long essays.

That said, there's nothing you can do about it now, I doubt it alone would get you rejected. But you really need to think about these things in the future. A shorter essay is always better than a longer one.

I just sent a 1600 char short answer that has 1000 char limit; lol; you should be fine

I applied early to Yale with 2 essays that were both well over the word count (650-700 range). Worked out just fine for me.

"they're going to see your essay and be like AUTOREJECTZ!!!!11!one"

Hahahahaha
