Hi--
I am really freaking out because just the other day I sent my transcripts to all of my colleges (including the UC's). Only today I reached the end of the application where it says on the last screen, "Do not sent transcripts unless instructed to." I am super anxious now because I already have and this is the first I have heard of this!
What happens now? Will they disregard me from admissions? Will they make a note of me not being able to follow directions? :(
Someone PLEASE help me!!

Let me preface this by saying I know absolutely nothing about the UC application process. With that out of the way, I’m envisioning the following interior monologue by the admissions officer reading your application:

“Let’s see… ooh, terrific SAT score, president of the Important Club, hmm… oh man, this essay is the best I’ve read in years, I’ll have to read from it at the next discussion meeting… great recommendation letter… wow, I think we definitely have to take a harder look at brookee! I’ll ask her to send in her transcript. Oh no, wait… looks like we already have it, she must have sent it in without being instructed to! Dang, and she was such a great candidate… oh well, application goes in the trash, maybe there’s another good candidate in this pile somewhere.”

Sound likely to you?

I am pretty sure that the UC schools want transcripts after they make their decisions. They will most likely throw it away because they will ask you for another one if you are accepted anyways. They want the most recent one, which will most likely be a midyear transcript. It definitely won’t hurt or help you in any way.

UCs only want final transcripts after you matriculate. These are used to verify self-reported courses and grades and to make sure that you did acceptably well in your senior year courses.

Basically, it means that they and the high schools have to deal with far fewer transcripts than if they asked for them at application time. Each applicant does, however, have to convert the transcript into the standardized form by putting the courses and grades into the application.

Just make sure you fill out the application correctly including your course history and grades and send official test scores. Sending the transcript will not have a negative impact. It just won’t be used at this stage (those who actually make admission decisions will not get a copy and won’t even be informed you sent it). If accepted, you need to send a final transcript after completing high school.
