MY DD sent out some applications but has only received one letter. She was accepted, but is going crazy waiting for the others. How long does it usually take and is there a way to check the status of an App.?

Unless the schools were rolling admission, your D will generally have to wait for the spring (around April 1).

Each college has its own way of checking application status on-line. If there is a way, they’ll usually send you a link in e-mail.

And congratulations on your d’s acceptance!

Tell her to sit back and relax - now it’s time to enjoy senior year!

frog - most of your questions will be answered by looking at each college’s website. They will usually tell you the deadline date and the anticipated notification date. Most early action applicants hear in December or January. If it is regular decision it is March or as late as April 1. By checking the website you will also see if they have an on-line status update section where you can verify that all credentials (transcript, test scores, teacher recommendation, etc.) have been received. Many times this will also update periodically to say “application complete”, “decision pending”, etc. If the college does not have this - your D can call and ask if her file is complete or e-mail the regional rep to ask same.

Forever.

Just kidding. It only seems that way. But eventually early April will arrive. And your new challenge will be making decisions before the May 1 deadline.

Depends on how she applied, rolling, Early action or regular decision. Check the school web site and see what they say. My S applied to 9 schools EA or rolling in early Nov. He heard back from his two rolling schools within 2 weeks. He heard back from one EA school in about 3 weeks. All the other schools say they will respond in early to mid Jan.

Some school will let you know sooner than April, others will make you wait. You need to check the college websites (and sometimes the CC college specific boards) to find out when you are likely to hear back. Rolling schools tend to notify pretty quickly early in the season, but it may take longer now that it is December.

Sometimes a kid gets a “likely” letter which says that the student can expect an acceptance a few weeks later. Those are wonderful! But also rare.

Now is a great time to develop a new work out plan. Burn up lots of calories instead of staring at the mail box! Trust that it will all sort out by May (except for the wait list bit – that can go on until next September!).
