Sentence Error Question, What's wrong?

Hey, I just have a little SE question, would be glad if anybody could provide
an instructive explanation.

A (It was) a Chinese grower who finally succeeded B (with adapting) the C (now familiar) orange tree D (to) the American climate. E (No error)

I chose E though I stumbled upon B. But what is the exact explanation for B?

Thanks!

It's probably succeeded in adapting.

Am not sure though.
B is an eyesore anyhow; easily distinguishable.

yeah, it is B because "with adapting" is an idiomatic error. One doesn't succeed with sports, they succeed in sports. Obviously, the same is true when using the verb adapt.
