SEO 2008 Program

JMIONE1: Did you ask them about a follow-up phone interview?

Follow-up phone interview:

Conference call with 3 alumni from HK, one from each of the banks there. Definitely a more chill interview than the other ones. Felt more like a conversation and I had a fun time interviewing. Mostly asked the same questions about the market and why ibank, etc. Also half of the interview was in chinese to test out my chinese skills. The interview lasted 30-40 minutes.

For anyone else who finished their follow-up phone interview: when do you think we’ll hear our final decisions?

I just had my follow-up today, more intense than the in person. My interviewer was very dry and harsh. I interview well over the phone, and was unsure at the end of this one.

I think they’ll let us know within 2 weeks, hopefully before Christmas.

For me, at the end of the follow up interview, the interviewers told me that the final decision will be made by the person who interviewed me in person. They’re just sending him notes from the follow up phone interview so he can make the final decision.

Woah…online they say that decisions are coming out until mid-January. Before Christmas seems like a really fast turn-around.

i had my in person interview last friday and haven’t got any email from them yet…worried…=S

For giob700, you said your friend for IB got a follow up phone interview? When was his/her in-person interview and when did he/she received a request for a follow-up phone interview?..also, was your friend applying for NY IBD?

Curious: DO any of you get emails from different people at SEO encouraging you to apply soon?

Shuava I also had my interview last Friday and no followup yet… I guess is safe to say that if we don’t get a followup interview we are getting in… Where did u have ur interview?

The List:

Foxtrot: Simple answer is I don’t, and you proved me wrong about first round being all completed this past week, with your interview being yesterday. I am still confident that the first round of interviews should be finishing up soon. I believe SEO waits for enough applications to pile up, so that they have enough reason to fly people in (Rishi my interviewer was from NY) to interview candidates and that is when they do the next of the three round. Therefore, I would still say that Round 1 for Washington DC has been completed last week, but I do not know about other locations.

Firefly88: No, I didn’t want it to seem like I knew a lot of inside information. Haha. I did ask what the next process was, and Rishi said decisions in mid-January.

EECS@JHU: Yes, I believe everyone should have. First Round though is still the time you have the best opporunityHere is what my said:

Hi XXXXXXX,

I want to remind you that SEO’s 2nd deadline is coming up on December 15th. Even given the current market conditions, SEO will be INCREASING the size of its intern class. SEO will be admitting students on a rolling basis; therefore, in order to maximize your opportunity to join the program, make sure to submit your application by this date. Also, please pass this information on to anyone you know who may be interested.

Happy holidays,

Thanks all for your response on your phone interviews!

**** so I was writing this post……….AND SEO CALL

I GOT IN!!! NO LIE!!!

I have 14 days to decide

congrats JMIONE1! good news man! Hopefully I will know my final decision soon too.

Good job jimone!!! Did u have a follow up interview?

No follow up after the in person interview.

Wow, JMIONE1 good job! I can’t believe how quickly SEO has sped up the process this year.

To umdavidum, I had my interview for NY IBD in NY. why do you think if we didn’t get another phone interview meaning we’re in?

to JMIONE1. which division were you applying for? Anyone applying for IBD ny recently heard from seo?..so nervous

shuava I’m sorry that’s a typo what I meant to say is that if we don’t get a followup interview we r not getting in.. But from jmione’s post I can see that a followup int. Is not necessary.. Good luck

IB in NY. Specifically I’m interested in corporate finance

Hi,

Yesterday, I had my phone interview. I thought it went well. Granted I’ve got a 3.75 in Econ, but I showed a good understanding of the markets and overall had a solid performance. Although I couldn’t remember the exact Dow closing price and that of oil, I knew which way they were going, why they were headed in that direction, and where they might go in the future…

Toward the end, my interviewer spent almost five minutes giving me advice for the next round, and even wished me luck with the next interview. However, she also said that I would have to wait for up to a month for feedback.

What do you guys think? Am I good to go? Has anyone had that kind of phone interview, and nonetheless end up with no invite to NY?

Thanks alot, and congrats to JMIONE1.

P.S. - For those of you still waiting for feedback from phone interviews, did your experience resemble this one? Thanks again.

I got a person-interview for Dec 18th in Houston.
I didn’t get a phone interview; they just asked me to sign up for an in-person interview.
I was wondering if this was a good thing. Also, my invitation for the interview came pretty late so this is probably not a good indicator.

I have a couple of friends who got offers and their last phone-interviews were conducted by the program directors. I guess HK program phone interviews are done by alumni.

All the students who are accepted to the HK program seem to be from very selective schools. I am not from an Ivy League school (obviously, since I am interviewing in Houston). I am quiet nervous since I do not come from a prestigious university. I am planning to do my best, so keep me in your prayers!
