SEO Career Program 2010

hey guys, i just signed up! i’m also having my in-person soon in corpfin

rtalati: what was your interview like? do you have any tips? i’m so nervous!

Hey guys, I have a petition/question… For my interview, i feel like I should really get my hands on the vaul career guidelines, and, because my school is small, it does not grant me access to such resources. Will anyone in a school that grants them resources to the vaul guides help me and forward them to me. Thank you very vey much

Just to throw it out there again, I am a 2-time SEO alum. Happy to chat with anyone that is prepping for interviews.

Trying to be a good SEO alum here (they always want us to help people get ready), haha :)

Hey there BigMike

So can you tell us EVERYTHING you did after you realized you got accepted, the webinars you read and the company you worked for. Thank you very much

rtalati:
i think everyone is different by where you are from. I live in NYC and the HQ is here also, so my whole process was about 3 weeks because i had easy access to them.

I am happy to answer questions, but that is way too general for me to respond to really. I can say that I did my sophomore summer in technology and my junior summer in banking. I worked for big investment banks like everyone else :P. I did a third internship (I’m a 5th year masters student) at a 3rd bank, but that was not with SEO at all.

I’m also not sure what you mean by “webinars you read”.

So, any more specific questions?

I just sent a private message to you through College Confidential. If you are unable to read it, please let me know of an e-mail address where I could send the message. Thanks for your help.

jroutt: I think you are right about the fact that different regions have different acceptance timelines. This anxiety is killing me though. I hope I find out soon.

rtalati: I know someone who waited 3 months before they heard anything. He is from Houston as well.

Anyone interviewing in NY this week? Mines on Thursday, the 7th.

hey all, got a question for those that know

I interviewed for CorpFin at one of the regional sites in December and I know that with the snow storm NY had and the holidays, we might not hear back until mid/late Jan. I didn’t have a great interview (felt like they were grilling me) so im not expecting much, but when would you recommend hitting up the BB’s directly? Its kinda awkward to nag contacts to help land interviews only to decline if offered SEO.

For those that haven’t had their interviews yet, my experience was weird. It was three of them and they kept asking questions every which way. I’ve had previous interviews and it was much more of a discussion type of situation, whereas SEO was much more spitfire. I recommend getting your story down, and disregarding the stressful nature of the SEO interviews and maintain composure.

L

If i haven’t heard anything back from SEO, do that mean i am rejected?

^ditto. I had my in-person interview mid-december, and attend a target.

@banzhidiao/JoeThePlumber09 - SEO’s timelines for stuff in general is pretty loose. Don’t worry too much about it. Just hang in there.

@longhorns07 - you should definitely apply to BBs directly. In the event you don’t get SEO, you will definitely still want the opportunity to work at a BB right? So apply. Keep in mind that any place that you interview with directly that does not extend you an offer is out of the running for potential places SEO can place you.

First, has anybody from the IB-Corporate Finance gotten a response from SEO, how was your interview like, what did they asked u? and
Second, I have the opportunity to do Skype or phone interview. Alumns, which one should I take and why? skype gives me the video advantage, however, the phone allows me to maybe have printouts of importatn things just in case I forget, or numbers on recent news… Which on will make a better impression and why?
Thanks people!!!

If they offer up skype I’d go with that, that way you can at least see each other. You should just know your stuff well enough to not need notes… and it’s not like they are going quiz you on numbers for an hour or anything.

Hey,

So if you dont get an interview for a BB that means that that particular bank is out of the running for SEO placement? I go to UT Austin and am in there Business Honors Program and they only interview 20 or so people for every bank and its literally been random selection like i got 5 out of the 15 interviews I applied to. Does that mean all the banks that didnt give me an interview are out for SEO? Thanks.

Has anyone heard anything back from SEO yet? I interviewed mid december and sent in my updated transcript not too long ago. I go a target school and none of my friends (neither from my school or a couple other target institutions) have heard back either. I know I should just wait, but the anxiety.

I’m in the same position as you bkxtrio. A friend of mine who applied last year told me it typically takes a month, maybe even a bit more, for them to to contact you post in-person interview.

Well it looks like I’m the first to be accepted on this form. Ive followed this form for awhile just to see what too expect. I got an offer today. I was called by the coordinator of my program.

I had 3 interviews total: 2 phone and 1 in person.

Applied in late oct.
Had phone interview several days after
in person in first week of December
another phone interview yesterday.
Offer today

I def plan on accepting my offer. SEO is a great opportunity. Good luck to you all.

Just prepare, prepare, prepare and you will do fine.

Sportsblife09, did you get into CorpFin? I thought that 3rd phone interview is usually for S&T?

Also, do u mind sharing if you thought you had a good interview or thought they were trying to grill you too?

Did anyone here apply for the IT program? I am going to have my in-person interview in February, and I don’t know what to expect.
