Just curious, does your GPA matter alot for getting to the phone interviews? Cause I'm rocking a pathetic 3.2 (although I'm on pace for like a 3.6+ this semester, so I'll probably send in an updated transcript), and I'm wondering if there is even a chance of getting an internship through SEO. I guess my work experience is slightly above average (internship at Ameriprise Financial my freshman year summer).

Oh, I go to UMich too if that matters at all

Just curious about SEO- are they still recruiting with all the financial stuff going on?? i was going to apply but it seems their website hasn't been updated: they still have merril lynch and co on their site

I applied a while ago and still haven't heard back.

I had an internship with an i-bank (a "big" one), I have >3.6 GPA and I go to a good state schools

I'm not sure when I can expect to hear back; I've heard that it's between 1-2 weeks after Nov. 1.......that would mean this week or not this week

I got a phone interview for i banking research. Im an Econ major with a 3.2 and I don't have much experience...just a case comp and summer project group with deloitte accounting. Im also a research assistant at a business school...

UMich is a good school. It all depends on which department you apply for. CorpFin is always competitive and 3.6ish is usually the cutoff. I'd recommend trying out for asset management, accounting, s&t

Lying about your GPA is a bad idea since employers ask for transcripts.

There's lying(the whole arbitrary 3.6gpa)... which I don't condone. But there's proforma(lol). Average your GPA, list only your major GPA. Not lie.... the goal is to get past the resume filtering system... anyone with half a brain can tell that if you list your major gpa only, then your cum is horrible, vice versa... you're applying for fortune firms, they don't necessarily hire stupid people, so anyone can figure it out. But the point of the matter is to convey your message....

maybe you worked really hard and held down a full-time gig or did some demanding internships during the academic year or had some club/fraternity obligations that hindered your performance during the school year.

Sometimes budgets are tough and your GPA may not indicate your true performance if put on a level playing field.

Your goal is to get your resume past the system and into the hands of someone who can make an honest judgment of your future performance. But even the article(written by a banker) says "know your stuff before the interview"(paraphrasing) which is common sense.

LYING IS WRONG. I totally agree. But if you know your stuff... why should you be treated as inferior if you had to bust your butt to make it through college.

I hope you get an interview invite soon wrongaccount. On the other hand, I think it's good news for the rest of us from non-Ivy schools applying for corporate finance. Since IB activity has decreased considerably because of the current crisis, I think competition for Corporate Finance will be extremely tough this year. Now I think I should have applied for IB-Research. For those of you who are applying for the december deadline, think twice. But mind you it's just an amateur opinion. It could very well be wrong.

yeah i have a 3.7 from a state school (NJ), and interned at a bulge bracket investment bank last summer (one that crashed in sept., take a guess which one)

so.....I haven't gotten an interview yet either.....
