So, I finally enrolled in Georgia Institute of Technology and got admitted to Computer Science. I noticed that most universities have their CS programs in the College of Engineering. However, Georgia Tech has CS in their College of Computing which has only 3 programs in total. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of having an entirely separate college just for CS and a few other related majors?
I can’t see any cons personally. I am also in a CCIS only school, and it means all my advisors are specifically for CS. It gives you good accessibility and knowledge IMO. The downside to specialization in general is lack of balance, but in this case that doesn’t apply as your curriculum doesn’t necessarily change. If your school limits the classes you take out of your program then that could cause issues I guess, but my school doesn’t put many restrictions on out of college classes so that’s not a con for me. Overall it should be exclusively a plus pending unusual factors.
@PengsPhils Thank you so much!
