Go Bucks!

This scholarship info. has been updated since I originally posted in July. It now reads:

"Trott Family Scholarship (5 awards at $30,000 each)
The Trott Family Scholarship is funded by Association Member Byron Trott, Chairman and CEO of BDT & Company.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: SEPTEMBER 25

High school senior planning to attend Ohio State University
Will submit an application for early decision/early action (by Nov. 1)
Academic achievement (minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5)
Applying for this scholarship will also make you eligible for national/state scholarship awards"

also from link in original posting critical financial need is defined

"General Eligibility
The following criteria applies to all programs below:

Critical financial need ($55,000 or less adjusted gross income per family is required)
Integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
United States citizenship"

Ohio State usually allows stacking of outside scholarships up to CoA, so the National Buckeye award of $13,500 this year http://undergrad.osu.edu/cost-and-aid/merit-based-scholarships plus the $30,000 should be enough for oos tuition, room, board and books/supplies. Plus, the university provides every entering freshman with an iPad Pro to use for their studies.

This scholarship deadline is Sept. 25, 2018 for current seniors applying to Ohio State for Fall 2019. Yes, the scholarship application is due well before the early action deadline of the school. Yes, you can (and should) submit your application for this scholarship even if you have not yet submitted your application to Ohio State.

The application will also serve as your application to the state/national Horatio Alger scholarships as well.

There are other threads on the Horatio Alger here on CC if you are interested in learning more about it.

What if you’re not sure what your income is? FASFA doesn’t start until Oct. 1st. I know my family is low income; just not sure about the exact amount.

Also, it’s complicated b/c my parents are divorced, so how does that work?

You can use the FAFSA 4caster to estimate federal aid https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/estimate

This link has information about whose income to include if parents are divorced. https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa/filling-out/parent-info Here are a couple quotes from the link:

"Divorced or Separated Parents Who Do Not Live Together
If your parents are divorced or separated and don’t live together, answer the questions about the parent with whom you lived more during the past 12 months.

If you lived the same amount of time with each divorced or separated parent, give answers about the parent who provided more financial support during the past 12 months or during the most recent 12 months that you actually received support from a parent."

"What if I have a stepparent?
If you have a stepparent who is married to the legal parent whose information you’re reporting, you must provide information about that stepparent as well.

EXCEPTION: The FAFSA form asks about your parents’ education level. For these two questions, your parents are considered to be your birth parents or adoptive parents—your stepparent is not your parent in these questions."

Hi! I know I’m a bit late on this, but do you know where I can get the application? I just found out about this scholarship and I can’t seem to find the link to apply. Please help me out!
