Now I’m second guessing my pride choice…It does say that the OFFICIAL reading was 27, which means they couldn’t have been too confident with it. I have no clue anymore >.<

i’m still going with prideful, i can see where reliant is coming from but prideful still seems better

If they believed their own instruments were “more accurate” than why would they ever rely on the government’s less accurate instruments??

^there’s no point in arguing about this. People from one side of this debate misread that paragraph. Let’s not argue with the people; let’s retrieve that paragraph!

Why don’t we ask them?

^I posted the whole passage airfreshener

^who’s “them” referring to?

^ The Wright Brothers, of course.

Sorry, but what was the answer for the one with the 3 students who live in varying distances from the school? That was the only one that tripped me up, I think I randomly guessed at the end. I need a letter please, not the actual answer.

^ Wrong section, dude. lol.

When did they say that they RELIED ON THE GOVERNMENT’S data? Just because it was official doesn’t mean the wright brothers thought it was right.

consolidated list?

Did we answer any questions on the India one? That one was pretty easy.

^thanks dude. You are my best friend.

@airfreshener, i put reliant becuase after he talked about his own equipment, he restated the goverments reading.

Also, the diary one. Did anyone put for the EXCEPT one that the aunt “liked reading”. It seemed like her stories were based on her adventurous behavior, her need for something more in life, and desire to write novels.

^exactly! i interpreted it as he felt the need to restate the government’s reading because DESPITE the fact that USUALLY their instrument is more accurate than that of the government, their instrument (the brothers’) came up with a number (24) short of the accurate reading (27). and 27 was the government’s number so they were “reliant” on it.

That doesn’t mean they RELIED UPON IT. Here is that portion of the paragraph:

The reason they mentioned the OFFICIAL READING of the US was that they wanted the readers to know where they got the 27 from. It was simply to elaborate upon the first sentence, which talked about the morning gale being 27m

They seemed pretty proud of their works throughout the entire story, though. I don’t think they were TOO reliant on anything considering they went on poor conditions and were still proud when their plane broke.

I have a feeling they’ll throw this question out in the end, making reading a +1
