September 2010 ACT Science Discussion

Any Curve predictions?

I think the trials were 2, 5, 6

yeah, experiments 2,5, and 6 were all at 294 K.

HUGE CURVE, NO MASSIVE CURVE, NO EXPONENTIAL CURVE
x_x

I think the article specifically said that carbon would leak out of the mesh bags.

Also, the higher the color value means the darker the color? right?

Yes. It does.

This science section was strange for me. I’ve never run out of time on an ACT section until this, and I usually am strongest in science and get a 35 or 36. I think it may have screwed up my whole score.

What will the curve be like?

I’m pretty sure the mesh was to let carbon out.
It said in the passage with the mesh section that they put the stuff in the bag, measured carbon and mass, and then measured the carbon and mass later.

Yup, my score got screwed also. I had to guess on 3-4 questions.

what was the one where it said what if it was this many % and then the stem is inverted? or something like that…

and the answer choices were all percentage ranges

dancingdoctor, i also def feel pressed for time on science

@ nevergiveup, it was 70-100 i believe…cuz if you used the info they asked you to it led you to a point on the graph of like 80 or something. and 70-100 was the only choice that included 80

Ugh, I’m really scared the curve is going to be -1= 34 because I thought this section was easy… :(

I think the answer choice regarded the mesh bag and carbon was “to retain carbon.” I definitely didn’t think that was right, so I chose to let water and air in.

What was the one about if People 9 + 10 had babies what percent would be T?

I thought that it was 100% because it would be dominant/dominant with dominant/dominant, based off of what the student conjectured. I’m not positive, though.

I put to let water and air in also.

I put 100%

^^^ You got lucky; water and air was the right answer and it was 100% I think.

Does anyone else feel like they bombed science?

I put “to retain carbon” only because through frantic skimming I didn’t see any mention of why mesh bags were used.

I also put 100% and also, for the very last question of the science section, was the answer experiment 2? I’m only asking this because I filled in the last bubble with only seconds remaining and didn’t have time to make sure it was 2. It asked which of the experiments used varying sizes of the spherical something…
